Happy #NationalCandyCornDay!

Candy corn reminds me of Halloween, so I re-imagined it as a Halloween cat!

I think this would make a great spooky season puzzle. What do you think?

It’s also well to point out how anti-capitalist this is. Products expand because there is money to be made. It’s not a movement.

Black people are in ads because they buy things. Bad Bunny is playing the SB because he has millions of fans.

The change-haters are the anticapitalist ideologues.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

This is what blows me away every time. There's no one who NEEDS predictive text machines. It's not curing cancer or feeding people or producing clean energy. It's just sucking up resources, convincing CEOs to fire humans who do better jobs than it can do, and allowing founders to siphon VC money
"will require a breakthrough energy source" my dude, it requires nothing because it doesn't need to exist. you WANT a breakthrough energy source to keep playing, and you can get in line behind the people who actually need it #comemierda

Thread on OpenAI ruling and what it means for writers:

Heads up for the New York folks who follow me:
ICE is staging in a garage on Centre St & Howard in lower Manhattan ahead of what neighbors believe is a planned large-scale raid of Canal
Street this afternoon.
Estimated 20-25 agents inside, with more steadily joining, some taken by surprise and caught with their masks down.

Remember when people on the board of OpenAI staged a coup to oust Altman because they said he couldn’t be trusted with this technology? Maybe, just maybe, everyone should have listened to them.

I'm already an above average writer so any supposed advantage to using an LLM goes out the window. I am not an above average artist, but that's why I pay artists when I need art. Remember I have it in my contracts that all work on my books (art, editing, translation, etc) has to be done by humans.
I imagine LLMs are less useful for expert wordsmiths like Mr. Scalzi.

Interesting video about the state of Pinterest and where else to look for references. This seems to be targeting knitters and I suspect it got pushed to me because just yesterday I was looking for Nordic textile references online (and struggling.)

None of us asked for any of this crap. THEY chose to integrate it into every area of life. THEY put it in search results.

My FIL now asks his phone “chat GPT, show me a picture of a 57 Chevy” instead of looking it up. Then asks ten more times because it’s wrong.

This is on them. No bailouts.
No bailouts. The US should extort these companies when the crash happens so they get minimal compensation in return for nationalizing the entire panopticon industry and then destroying it once harvested for socially useful parts. It won’t happen but it should
when its definitely not a hostage situation

A lot of disinformation is circulating about what Senators/Representatives Slotkin, Kelly, Crow, Deluzio, Goodlander, and Houlahan actually said. Here is the transcript. It contains no accusation that the President issued unlawful orders, no call to disobey lawful orders, and no advocacy of mutiny.

you do have to do it in a couple of places but this tutorial makes it easy to go uncheck the boxes that otherwise lets Google's AI read all your shit. or move everything over to protonmail but moving everything over is a giant thing I know.
Google has started automatically opting you in to let it read your stuff to train AI. You need to turn this off in SEVERAL places in your settings (not just for Gmail), if you want to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Trump’s so-called "peace plan" is a blueprint for Russian victory. Forcing Ukraine to surrender any territory under threat is not diplomacy—it’s appeasement that guarantees future conflict. We must not reward Putin’s aggression with Ukrainian land.

@ms.now Congrats on the new name & branding! For readability, please consider not having red text on screen (names, etc.). It’s hard to read. Please also consider not always having a red bar on the bottom. It’s harder to read text & would be better for actual breaking news, not all the time. Thanks!

If these tax credits expire, it will spike health care costs for everyone — whether you’re on the ACA or not.

You don’t need to watch Seth Meyers to see the danger here. Presidents in democracies don’t demand that critics be fired, and federal regulators don’t amplify those demands. It undermines editorial independence and chills dissent.
