the thing that drives me insane about genAI/chatgpt bullshit is that brother, the process IS the work IS the entire thing. no artist comes to art for the final result. the final result is inextricable from the fucking labor that came into making it

Are you a new reader to BARBAROUS, but you're unsure how to navigate our archive? We occasionally get comments on this, so I thought a quick explainer might be nice.

1. Go to the archive: johnnywander.com/comic/archive

2. Hit the Storyline dropdown menu, and select the chapter you want to read!

"concept artists can experiment with AI to make their lives easi-"

wrong

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI

New Illustration: "We Beat 'Em Before..."

Taken from a British WW2 poster, the original features a WW1 German soldier at the top. I just swapped it for the Nazi soldier it had at the bottom.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

Trans people are a "losing issue"??? PEOPLE are not "losing issues." They are who you protect and care for. They are who you take risks caring for and protecting. You saying trans people are a "losing issue" is antihuman and disgusting and proves you don't get the point of literally anything in life

once again, thinking about this. I do not know how much more collective grief and fear and death you need to see from us before it moves you to action. call your reps. okay, you don't wanna call for xyz reasons; understand that your next moves will be less effective but still, MAKE THEM.
if you're a U.S. voter and you claim to want more for trans folks than just visibility, you can dedicate 2 to 8 minutes to us a week.

Most of us did not choose to write or draw or design so that we could put products on the shelf. We chose to do it because it’s a set of skills we enjoy exercising, that give us fulfillment.

It’s like asking a pro pitcher to just let a machine pitch for them. Fuck off and give me the ball.

Yeah and notice how a lot of not Republicans just kind of went along with it and/or didn't bother engaging with the further oppression of a vulnerable and already oppressed minority community at all?
Notice how Trump and Republicans were having the worst couple weeks in the administration's history and they decided to pivot to hardcore attacking trans people?

what I want trans kids, queer kids, and gender nonconforming kids to know:

you are loved

you are so much more powerful than the ghouls using your healthcare as a political pawn, and you WILL outlive them (they know this, and it is why they're attacking you)

Really annoying that people who defend it for small ease of use things are basically just talking about wanting a search engine replacement but it is objectively worse at being a search engine?
We can do even more.

I won't let this administration come for you, your doctors, or your lifesaving health care.

Your health care is still legal and protected.

I'll always fight for you.
