WHY?? BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT SERVES* THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE

*😒
BARTIROMO: How do you want this to play out once the ACA subsidies expire?

DR OZ: We have lots of great ideas, but I don't want to show our cards. As the president often says, why would I telegraph to you what we're gonna do?

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

In 2017, three Republicans stood up to their caucus to preserve landmark ACA legislation for millions of Americans. Tonight, eight democrats killed it.

The fact that none of the 8 Dems are up for re-election in 2026 is a pretty good sign @schumer.senate.gov engineered the surrender

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

Let’s be clear: Chuck Schumer is the one ending this shutdown, no matter how the votes read.

Chuck Schumer is claiming that he’s voting no, while letting other Senators (Fetterman, Kaine, King, etc) do HIS dirty work.

He must be removed from his leadership & primaried for the sake of this country

Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

it’s cute that they think we’ll forget

if they work together to keep everyone’s hands off it who is up for re-election anytime soon that just reinforces that this was a strategy more of them agreed on than the ones who vote yes. nuke them all from orbit
It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.
This is a lovely sentiment but Schumer isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he knows this. At which point he will be 77/78. There's no mechanism to recall a sitting senator AFAIK.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

Dem leadership said “oh, can’t have enthusiasm! What’s that, even Republicans are finally coming to our side and abandoning MAGA? Better fuck it all up!”

I hate it here.

going to also give a shout-out to dv shelters, healthcare hikes and snap shutoff almost certainly means a spike in domestic violencee, they’re also hurting from lack of federal grants from the shutdown
While they’re still screwing about with SNAP, it’s a good idea to donate to pet shelters, too.

If you dare show up with “poor people shouldn’t have pets”, I will tear such a new one it generates a black hole.

Excellent exposé on Watson’s abhorrent racism but little on the oft-skipped Rosalind Franklin who, without her expertise in crystal photography, he wouldn’t have understood the double helix of DNA. She is REGULARLY left out of the discovery and Watson’s bigotry is a reason!
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
