Politicians are using Ukrainian refugees as a political football.

The Welsh Conservative leader says he is against Wales' Nation of Sanctuary policy.

But this wasn't always his position...

It seems his morals have changed because he is worried about Reform taking his votes.

A human rights position is universal, requiring us all to extend rights and protections to those we disagree with

Yes, you can deny some groups are owed human rights, but only by denying their humanity

Moving to large scale sites won’t save money. The last government tried and it ended up costing more with people housed in unsuitable places. The cheaper and faster way to get out of hotels is to give leave to people who will either eventually get it anyway or who can’t be removed.

I contacted company owner & he joined Bsky. Welcome @lowensskincare.bsky.social! Looking for wonderful family brand in Canada? Give a follow!

While all seems a big mistake (not by Lowen's), it's what real customers are experiencing due to tariff snafus.

UPS? I'm not only customer having issues...

Hi all. Adam looped me in. I wasn't on prior (have been avoiding SM)

So, the refusal costs would be billed to us - which, I've recommended that Adam do
For the fees - all or our products are duty, tax and tariff exempt under CUSMA, the paperwork was sent in hardcopy and via email.

So, UPS...?

Sky News and the BBC repeatedly mention the "migrant crisis" in doing so they are normalising and legitimising far right talking points. There is no "migrant crisis", there is only migrant hysteria, which the British media is feeding into instead of countering.

The accidental decriminalisation of racist abuse

We can't have this infinite tolerance of racism online without socialising impunity for overt racism this summer against minorities in parks, buses, racist stickers/graffiti on lampposts & restaurants and in person abuse

I wish it was more complicated but: Elon won. Pundits, journalists and political elites uses Twitter to gauge popular discourse and identify stories, which was workable so long as it was moderated. He seized control, completely altered its normal mode, but none of them adapted.

think that realistically I would have always been deeply, deeply worried about the rise of far-right ideas in public discourse but I truly never expected this level of blithe elite complacency, turns out I do feel worried but mostly I feel like I'm going insane, watching them do.......nothing at all

Myself I feel powerless to stop this fascist rise precisely because it feels like all our institutions are just rolling over to it.

To remove indefinite leave to remain from people who already have it they'd have to dismantle our entire system of rights legislation and probably end judicial independence.

But they could do that with a majority. They've said they'd do that.

Ed Davey: "Elon Musk is a danger to this country...He said civil war is inevitable...He said our democratically elected government should be overthrown. He's incited violence

"He isn't interested in Britain and the British people. He's interested in his own economic interest, his own bank account."

For what it's worth, I think it's both - and I think it's striking quite how far apart the two responses are. However, that second reason is often overlooked and is love to see some research to work out which has most impact 2/2
stsikel.bsky.social
I think there's two potential explanations here: the one I see in comments about the media manufacturing consent for restrictive policies, but also second, a feeling that the country must be able to control who gets to live here and on what terms if the nation state means anything at all. 1/2

Welsh poll sees Plaid and Reform contesting a polarised electorate.

Reform is the leading party among the over 50s (half of whom are on the righ politically).

Plaid is resonating with the Welsh under 50 (where two-thirds vote for centre-left parties)

No party can dominate the Senedd. That’s the point.

Labour scraped a majority once, in 2003. Every other year since 1999, Welsh Government has only functioned because someone else helped make it work - Lib Dems, Plaid, independents…
