It's clear from the article that ICE is *miserable* here. They're freezing their asses off and being harassed everywhere they go. Property managers aren't allowing them access to rental properties and people know their rights and aren't letting them in.

KEEP IT UP.

i'm real sick of people not in minneapolis trying to give chief o'hara some sort of credit for an ultimately meaningless statement

the things the MPD has sworn are policy and then either didn't follow or just blatantly contradicted could fill a world book encyclopedia

Writers love socialized books (libraries)
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Reminder:

The use of tear gas as a method of warfare is prohibited under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention
Reminder of all the side effects of tear gas & it's just being deployed in residential neighborhoods for a gaggle or three of people who don't want their neighbors kidnapped.

We have got to collectively help people understand that of course the local* cops are acting as an arm of the machine. That is their purpose.

People need to grow their minds & grieve what they've been conditioned to believe about cops being there to help/serve/protect.

We voted at the VERY close of the very first day of early voting after a trip to the Arboretum with @susshushsushi.bsky.social

Spirits were high at the early voting center & it was an excellent conclusion to a lovely day.
We got to spend hours at the Arb, made a delightful stop at the Apple House, drove through Culver's, & realized if we went directly there, we'd be able to EARLY VOTE together!
So our votes are officially cast for a NEW MAYOR, a fresh progressive park board, & a City Council who works for the people!

Leaning into hope and going to say that tomorrow we will have some really big wins

It does require putting in work to make sure our people are voting, but I believe local politics can be influenced by good organizing.

We can out organize the money they’re dumping to stop us

The message from Frey that “rent is down” is not resonating with voters.

We’re talking to renters and the concerns they keep talking about is the cost of living and the high cost of rent.
Sometimes I think people forget that, in 2021 Rent Control got more votes than Jacob Frey did.

I can't tell you the outcome of tomorrow's elections in the Twin Cities. But I do know that whatever the results, we should hold space for disappointment, elation, or indifference and then get ready to organize again. To organize even with people we stood across from.

The stakes will require it.

If the Strib insists on having Andy Brehm, then I propose they have Taylor writing a political column as a counterweight because she brings such tremendous receipts.
steve minn has said that he voted for donald trump three times, and his company lupe developmment gave safer hennepin $25k for them to send mailers calling for republicans to vote for jacob frey

the media not writing about the conservative DFL / republican alliance this year is a failure!
Here is who is funding Safer Hennepin, who is calling for Republicans to vote for Jacob Frey, and some history on the PAC -

I’ve really never been personal or candid on this app but I’ve just had some really heavy thoughts this morning that I wanted to share.

On October 17th I found out I have a large ovarian mass that’s complex and suspicious. I had a CT scan for other issues but this is what they found.

I BEEN SAYING
Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh has an idea for filling empty storefronts: When they're vacant, tax the landlord.

A look at "commercial vacancy taxes," which experts say could curb speculation (and gentrification) — but could also backfire on local biz >> www.axios.com/local/twin-c...
Mayoral candidate's idea to fill empty shops: Tax the landlords
Downtown Minneapolis' retail vacancy rate is nearly 29% — twice the pre-pandemic level.

Minneapolis has become a tale of two cities. One for the wealthy and well connected, and one for all of us — the renters, transit riders, and working families who are left with vetoes and broken promises. We need a Mayor who stands with working people, and works as hard as we do.

This hits harder as a trans person who has found a home here.

We have tons of trans people moving here from hostile states, and many of them are living in South Minneapolis, in this ward.

Will Josh be a councilmember for them?
When I moved to Minneapolis in the mid-aughts, it was really difficult to make friends. People from other states didn’t get it.

Now the bias is front and center in my city politics. If I’m a resident who “just got here,” do I matter less to Josh?
