Like most US cities, Flavortown has a council-manager system where the mayor is a ceremonial figurehead

The new Muppet Show should have been a reboot of 30 Rock but with brand new Muppet characters, no Kermit or anything. It would work because 30 Rock itself is a reboot of the original Muppet Show with brand new human characters

I talked to a woman who quit an AUSA job recently. She was asked by main DOJ to dismiss a Medicare fraud prosecution because the defendant was the daughter of a girlfriend of a MAGA figure.

Only get romantically involved with people named after a book in the Bible. That way if you get a tattoo of their name you can always turn it into a Bible verse tattoo after you break up.

Moshe "Bogi" Ya'alon, former Defense Minister of the State of Israel and former Chief of Staff of the IDF, posted on X last night (in Hebrew) that "Prof. Yeshayahu Leibowitz was right and I was wrong" and compared the Israeli government's ideology of Jewish supremacy to Nazi racial theory.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."

any person who's given birth in the united states can correctly identify the point at which they were closest to death
A thought I had this morning: There is some point in your life when you have been closest to death. Maybe a car accident or near-accident, maybe a fall or near-fall, maybe accidental poison or asphyxiation.

What percentage of people do you think could correctly identify that point in their lives?

I love being terrible at chess. I love having no idea how to do a proper checkmate. I love sacrificing all of my pawns fewer than ten moves in. People devote their entire lives to it and I’m just like “wheeeeee horsies”

When I tell you I have no distance from this Minneapolis story.

I can't muster composure. I did human rights observing in N. Ireland for 10 yrs. In the U.S., I video'd cop violence.

2008, St. Paul cops kicked in the door pointing guns at me and my crew. Days later a battering ram was at my office.

1. Rubio and Venezuelan exiles sell the idea of decapitation strikes against Maduro to Trump as the one big thing that solves Venezuela, cartels and Cuba for the US.

Until the mid-1970’s, a man could not be convicted of rape in New York State based solely on the testimony of the woman he raped. A second witness was required because the female rape victim was deemed unreliable.

Feminism has not failed women.

America has deindustrialized so much they can't even manufacture consent
I still can't believe they're trying to make a war happen out of thin air. Not just their abrogation of Congress's role in formally declaring a war -- that's been a slippery slope for decades -- but their total unwillingness even to go through the motions of drumming up public support.

The first federal investigation into Border Patrol corruption and “excessive violence” was launched in 1930; by 1933, the government had fired every single working agent.

Fast forward to today, and the agency's sexualized workplace leads to harassment and assault, according to former agents.
“He’s an agent. No one will believe me over him.”
The case of an alleged rape at the Border Patrol Academy, and the culture of silence that helped keep it from public view.

So currencies. Much medium of exchange. Very store of value.

Stablecoins are no more a replacement for dollars than Mexican or Argentine pesos were a replacement for dollars in the 1980s or 1990s. They're the equivalent of a fixed exchange rate peg with ever-present credibility/reserves questions.
