Too many of us are asking the wrong question about the Trump-Epstein saga. We keep asking if there is a smoking gun. Instead, we should be asking why so many people in power have done nothing about where smoke has been pouring from for years.

So history of emotions has hit the mainstream media. On the one hand, cool. OTOH, it's a field that feels like the rather vexing habit of intellectual history guys to say that some phenomenon of modern life we take for granted actually originated in the intellectual historian's period of study.
A common assumption is that throughout history, people have experienced the same basic range of emotions. A radical field of history now challenges this assumption, Gal Beckerman reports. theatln.tc/KD2QRX9Y

Second of 2 essential threads:
Read Jim's whole thread! I also want to add some historical context. During the 1918 pandemic, there was so much confusion because many scientists still thought that a bacteria, not a virus caused the flu (because, as Jim notes, we couldn't even see viruses under a microscope yet).
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

I guess the tl;dr point of this thread is that if you're going to create an avowedly Christian Youth Group in the US that defines its mission as "combatting the threat of the radical left Communists," then you should be prepared for a bunch of neo-Nazis to see your org as a recruiting ground.

"The Originalism Trap," @audrelawdamercy.bsky.social (2024)
Maybe just me but to me it's incredibly obvious what these "birthright deniers" are up to. It's not an academic project, it's a political one, attempting to provide cover for conservative jurists who are now being asked to rule on this very question, and need a fig leaf of justification.

I try to remember to say this at the end of every year. If you buy my books, thank you. If you buy them as ebooks or audiobooks, thank you. If you buy them used, thank you. If you borrow them from a library, thank you. If you borrow them from a friend or steal them from an enemy, thank you. ❤️
Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.
I got it from my local library system, which has 28 physical copies (more than half are checked out) and 4 audiobooks. The branch library is two blocks from my house so I get most of my books from there. Hope this helps because I loved the book - I'm not a historian and knew nothing of that period.
