Best take on the postal service
It's a service. It's not designed to be profitable. Nobody says anything when the military loses billions per year.

i'm usually reticent to join these on a total stranger's post, but i could probably also stand to feel more accomplished about this thing i drew to scan & use in other things

I have always said it, I will continue to say it, we are limiting the productive potential of millions of freaks by demanding they earn a wage to survive instead of enabling them to do whatever thing their brain is broken for

they didn't need AI to make Silksong, it just needed some deeply insane guys to have a blank check for living expenses until their next thing was done, I think we should try doing more of that instead

Year's Longest Night, this side of the world. Wrap up inside the welcoming dark & bring it in to carry with you, in the light. The light will come tomorrow & we'll welcome that too, & the clarity & warmth it brings— but for now, esp in this era of weaponized surveillance, appreciate the dark, too

These things are the bane of my dayjob existence. (These things and digital fonts rights.)
one thing i've learnt at work is that OCR fucking hates ligatures so we get some howlingly incorrect text from magazine PDFs
Following up on that last repost, the reason why "ffi" is sometimes a single character in typefaces is that it's what's called a ligature, in which characters are merged to make them look better on the page, as seen here:

This is true of fiction, too. No matter how similar the concept/setup of your story might sound to someone else's, the mere fact that it's you writing it will make it different, and the fact is most readers won't even make the connection/comparison. Don't worry about it.
Indie Dev discovers the game they're making basically already exists, worried of being deemed a ripoff. Original dev responds.

So, since we have Yet More Discourse going on, I wanna toss out a thing because I keep seeing it come up.

Writing is not always fun, and that’s actually pretty normal.
Same. Frankly, I can’t imagine any situation where using an LLM to generate text would not make writing the book take ten times as long.
In case it doesn't go without saying: I have not used gen AI to create text in any of my books. I have not used Grammarly etc to "clean up" the text. I have not used it to research any of my books, except where it might be built into search engines under the hood (I do not use labelled AI results).
