A friend from my hometown screenprinted his band’s logo onto sheets. I needed some anyway and I would rather give money to him than target, so I have gogolplexia sheets.

There was what looks like a bad accident at 8 Mile and Wyoming.

NB Wyoming is closed and WB 8 Mile is down to one lane.

I haven’t lived anywhere steep enough to need city steps, but they fascinate me as infrastructure and it seems like a lot of them are neglected!

I grew up playing street hockey next to this thing, when it was unused but still attached to a standing structure.

Hurts every time I’m reminded that it’s just been… laying there like this for years now.

So, um, hey, any aspiring supervillains looking for a slightly used atom smasher...?

(Or maybe aspiring musicians looking for a great rehearsal space - the acoustics are supposed to be great.)

His writings on how design informs the pedestrian experience and Why Small Towns Are Laid Out Like That were really instructive for young me, but attempting to listen to his podcast convinced me that he should not attempt to have opinions on other things outside his central theory.

I was so pleased. I remember throwing in a “if you took Kunstler through a drive thru, he’d probably start foaming at the mouth” for spice.

I was seriously considering writing “I don’t know, Jeff” (the professor knew me) but no for real Kunstler is urbanism’s one trick pony and it’s not that hard to write what the trick is if you’re familiar with his general deal. I wasn’t wrong

In college we had a test with an essay question about the only chapter I hadn’t read in the James Howard Kunstler book we were assigned.

I freaked out, but the thing about Kunstler is dude basically only has one argument about everything, so I wrote a sarcastic version of that argument. Got an A

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

The 1900 block of Montgomery was Rob Powers’s thesis site.

It’s wild to see the progression from how dense it originally was, to how dense it was in its pre-McKee state when Rob wrote about it, to now.

Homes, places where people lived their lives. All gone.

So the bot has shared another one of the 1900 blocks that Paul McKee completely destroyed.

This used to have buildings from the 1800s on it! There was THERE there.
