I think there's a legitimate social identity of despair in social media where you basically need to constantly perform (already existing but in a lesser form) despair in order to reaffirm yourself as part of the group
half the userbase of this website is addicted to the dopamine hit that comes with "all is loss" bad news. they want to spiral out and resent you when you tell them something tethered to reality.

You also have to ask what end Walz can reasonably achieve. Their stated goal is to get ICE to leave. They can achieve that through prolonged and massive civil disobedience. Pretty much every other strategy leads to failure or surrender.
I don't think Walz is handling this perfect but one trigger Trump could use for the Insurrection Act is local law enforcement/the Guard basically trying to obstruct the feds. This entire thing is a game of "first side to fuck up loses," and so far Walz isn't fucking up. This isn't a movie.
