Skanks have been doing a lot of damage. I know you were all excited for skanks, but it's like sports gambling. There was a reason that we were trying to keep skanks under control

@nberlat.bsky.social I wrote this thread bc of 50501's heel turn & the fact that I don't really like AIPAC or the role of money in politics, but I also know that the "evil Jew money" stereotype goes very bad places. Since you're more knowledgeable on these issues than me, I'm curious what you think
You have to walk a fine line, for good reason, in discussing Israel. Israel's gov't is committing unconscionable crimes against humanity. Jewish people, the people for whom Israel's gov't purports to act, are frequent victims of unconscionable crimes against humanity, up to this day. (cont'd) …

Let's not abandon our very cool signature slogan of resistance in the Trump 2 era just because a bunch of shitheads are trying to attach themselves to it. They will try and attach themselves to literally anything. If we disavow everything they try to glom onto we will have nothing left.

One of the more idiosyncratic things about Bluesky, which I’m sure dampens its growth potential but whatever, is how many accounts otherwise strictly focused on American politics will, once a week or so, pop off with a little porn. As a treat.

Kinda weird! Kinda fascinating!
See this wouldn’t be a problem on Bluesky. No fascists here. And only the porn you asked to see.

It was inevitable that our first out trans congressperson was not going to be a sex worker, because the voting population still largely finds sex work to be a mark of shame, & that sucks & needs to change. (We're lucky they elected a trans person at all!)

It isn't Sarah McBride's fault, though! …
this is insane

According to Ross Douthat, we must ban porn _and_ ensure every movie has stonking great tits.

Gods I will never understand the psychosexual drama of the conservative mind

People yelling, "Bad people like this art, therefore the art is bad!" is one of the weakest, worst trends in appreciation and critique of art and I am sadly convinced we will never be free of it.

I particularly hate the suggestion there's some sort of grand bargain in which trans rights are given up in exchange for _______.

No one is offering such a thing. No one would change their vote to Dems after that. The argument exists solely to justify throwing trans people under the bus.
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.

one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.

when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

If your job application includes both "trans" and "woman" as separate options in a question about "gender identity" where only one answer is allowed, I'm gonna pick "woman"

I am trans as a byproduct of having a female gender identity, it is not my gender identity in and of itself

Harris-Walz ran exactly the sort of economics and “kitchen-table issues” campaign these voices recommend, adamantly avoiding identity politics.

Biden-Harris was a working-and-middle-class-economics-focused administration.

“Ah, but in 2020, Democrats said…”

Yes, that was the election they won.

As Julia Serano noted, if some kind of trans grand bargain were actually on offer regarding sports or whatever, it might make sense to take it. But it's not on offer! The other side is pretty clear about wanting the elimination of trans people.

I'm not a New Yorker but I deeply want this man to win, if nothing else bc he is a perfect example of how you can

1) stand up for trans rights, immigrants' rights, etc

2) make the focus of your campaign the affordability issues that plague this country (esp. in NYC!)

You can do both! Vote Zohran!
Nothing is inevitable. Effort is everything. Ignore the polls and run through the tape.

SNAP is probably the most effective federal dollar we spend in terms of long term domestic economic outcomes.

that isn’t why you should support it; you should support it because it is a moral imperative to feed the hungry.

but it’s why even a growth-oriented ghoul shouldn’t oppose it.

It's cliché at this point, but it's true: if your vote didn't matter, Trump and co. wouldn't be working so hard to take it from you. Let that galvanize you. Vote. Organize. Protect democracy. There's hope out there, and it's worth defending.
