I started Strength In Numbers in March with a goal to hit 25,000 readers by 2026.

The site is now just 1,100 people short of fully *doubling* that goal!

If you've found my independent, data-driven work valuable, I'd love it if you shared this post with a friend. ❤️

The GOP has really leaned in to singling out Somalis for very explicit racism. Ron Johnson and the rest of the party are just loathsome, un-American people.
Ron Johnson: "Understand, Somalis have just been in this country a few years. They're amateurs when it comes to fleecing the federal government."

Can I just say 2 things: First, Matt fails to see how these two sentences are different:

"Trump is weak on the economy and highlighting it is bad for him"
"Trump is weak on the economy, so Democrats shouldn't talk about immigration"

I think this says a lot about his ideological priors
Here's a good post from Elliott Morris, the leader of the anti-Yglesias bandwagon, about how Trump's biggest political vulnerability is the cost of living and how Trump is screwing up by drawing more attention to it.

Trump's White House speech on affordability shows his team is desperate to try anything to help his numbers (except, of course, change the policies that majorities of Americans disapprove of)

Hard to come up with a compelling answer to the following question: With a president at 40% approval and his party very likely to lose the House in the next election, and with wind in its sails from a successful off-year cycle, why is the opposition party not fighting overreach harder?
oh for sure. I think you have to accept you can't win every election...which means really aggressively crushing fascism while you're in office with an eye on the truth that you aren't going to be in office forever, rather than counting on the next election to save you.

if your view as an org is that Collins is closer to the guy we saw at the end of the year, and that Zerpa is a starter, this trade makes a ton more sense.

we'll see whether that bears out, but Arnold & co have more than earned the benefit of the doubt with scouting and player dev.

Trump sent Vance there twice. He threatened to cut off all federal spending to the state. He vowed to back primary challengers of any Republican who voted against him here. He posted their names online, prompting his fans to send them death threats.

But all that failed, so now he wasn't involved.
Reporter: The senate in Indiana voted against the redistricting effort.

Trump: I wasn't working on it very hard. I wasn't very much involved

I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.
A court with a normal-ish conservative majority would have been tolerable. I'm not eager for court packing, impeaching justices, and other such options. But this court sticking around post-Trump is untenable. They've already torched their own legitimacy, the only question is what do we do about it.
Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.

As Justice Kagan begins her dissent by pointing out, what is even the point of trial, of fact-finding, of clear error, of standards of review, when the Supreme Court simply ignores every single part of that and decides everything purely on the papers without any real consideration of the facts?

Mindless shit talking like this only destroys any credibility you might wish to maintain on stuff like this, Molly.

The reality is the Brewers could spend every penny they make in revenue (337M in 2024), lose hundrededs of millions of dollars and not come CLOSE to the Dodgers 549M spent in 2025.
Since Pat Murphy convinced America during the NLCS that the Brewers are both broke and bad, I think they should take whatever money they are spending on “alternate uniforms” and give it to good players instead.
The Brewers are getting a new powder blue alternate uniform 🔥👀

i'd go even further and say there is a reason even nixon kept this kind of stuff to himself. you would have to go back quite a bit to find a point at which is acceptable for a president to say anything like this *in public*, to say nothing of in the oval office.
I don’t want to be pollyannish about the past, but it was basically inconceivable twenty years ago that a president would say this publicly
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

Rule 5 platform year for some at the very least interesting names: Lara, Adams, Wilkens, Kuehner, Boeve, Birchard, Woodward, Wichrowski, O'Rae, Rodriguez, Hunt.

A few more that maybe force their way early: Pratt/Made/Fischer. And some soon to be out of option players Meyers, Black, Rodriguez.
