Bovino out is a great indicator. It’s a great start. But none of us can be appeased right now. It’s still abolish ICE. It’s still prosecute these fascists. It’s still destroy the whole apparatus that has been terrorizing and disappearing and murdering our neighbors.

Borders are made up, and only exist for poor and marginalized people. Look at the US selling golden passports. It was never about legality, but about class

This also goes for manual creative jobs, and people thinking there’s no value in something being handmade. Or even in general, for non-creative jobs, where many creatives don’t see in any value in… paying someone and feeding them. It really is a tell
the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs

They can take any two large, longhaired tabbies and BAM they've got themselves a Maine Coon factory. Two longhaired white cats? BAM instant Turkish Angora factory. Shorthaired greys? Russian Blue factory. As OP states, nearly 100% of cats are not any breed and there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. 👍

horrifying: teenage cousin told me a classmate will word for word memorize a chatgpt essay as a way to cheat on a blue book exam. im genuinely kind of at a loss for words like the lengths some children are conditioned to "win" to avoid learning anything

Trying to regulate your tone as an autistic person involves regulating your nervous systems and consciously thinking about tone in a way that (I think!) is comparable to removing a stutter

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

I just saw someone yell “they’re just using it to generate ideas!”

And

I hate to say it

But if you work in the ART DEPARTMENT and you need a death machine stuffed with your colleagues’ work to give you ideas

Quit.

Okay real talk, the only sense in which GenAI is "here to stay" is that even after the bubble pops, AI is digital asbestos that is poisoning everything and we'll probably be picking the detritus out of everywhere it's ended up for years, assuming there's a will to remove it en masse that is.

Any time you work on anything, you are going to hit those "UH OH" moments where your stomach drops as you see a similar project that makes yours feel derivative and uninteresting and doomed to fail.

That's normal! Regroup, adapt, persevere! Your perspective has value!

i love this explanation so much
"Generative AI" doesn’t tell the truth, which is believing you know facts & trying to communicate them; it doesn't lie, which is believing you know facts & trying to obscure them; it isn't even "mistaken," which is Trying to tell the truth but erring in either what's known, how it's told, or both.

"I realized, oh my goodness, there's an invisible community with an invisible center helping invisible people. And it's not right. It needs to be kept alive," Steves said.

Homelessness is a curious combination of exposure and invisibility. This is huge. Thank you SO much @ricksteves.bsky.social!
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.
