I'm sorry but the "urban/rural split" is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard & it's such a blatantly engineered part of the culture war that it's genuinely embarrassing to see people engage with seriously

Maan, I already don't like the idea of even giving auto pay my info tbh
"the ai agent can pay your bills for you!"

cool like autopay

"It will navigate to the sites itself!"

ok a less convenient, more expensive auto pay

"it can log in with your information!"

a less convenient, more expensive auto pay where I give you my personal information

WHAT

Punishment by death is inescapably wrong.
Yoon Suk Yeol should not get the death penalty, because (complicated legal explanation coming up!) absolutely nobody should get the death penalty.

Its kinda really funny that the biggest cultural impact of the Charlie Kirk assassination is that his name has become something middle schools yell to piss off their teachers

Honestly though if you're buying fucking Eric Adams' NYC Coin, you should've seen this coming
Eric Adams, former NYC mayor, launched a memecoin (cryptocurrency) today. He marketed it as an “NYC Token” and used media appearances and his social media to promote it.

Within hours, Adams then drained its liquidity, apparently having scammed investors out of $3.4 million—a move called a rug pull.

Ice cold take but I think we need a government position where if an elected official is blatantly dodging a question or explicitly speaking in bad faith about any group, theres a guy there to smack the official in question with a 2x4

Will Smith seems embarrassed by his movie raps when they were 90% of the reason we liked Will Smith, does he think I want to hear his music NOT involving the men in black?

So what you have *actually* discovered is that an American family working at minimum wage is *meaningfully better off* in terms of access to real resources than someone on the lower runs of Victorian Britain's educated *urban middle class.*

Quite the opposite of the intended implication!

Anyway, affordability is a problem (build more houses) and we need to bring down costs (build more houses) but I don't think that effort (building more houses) is aided by deceptive comparisons that imply no real increase in living standards since 1843, a thing which is obviously, laughably untrue.

Like we don't think of Carrie Fisher as a nepo baby even though she clearly was, because she was great but also because, eg, Harrison Ford was previously a carpenter and weed dealer, not also a film star's kid. We don't want a world with no Carrie Fishers, but we've got one with no new Fords.

This. The problem isn't that someone gets a helping hand from their parents, it's that the helping hand is *needed*. There should be pathways into the arts for people of other backgrounds.
One thing that rankles with me - slightly - about nepo baby discourse, is that seemingly 90% of successful actors in the UK have a massive structural advantage simply from being born rich. To obsess over the 1% who also have famous parents as if THAT'S the problem, misses the forest for the trees.
Thing is as Nepo parent, you’re in a bind, you aren’t going to hinder your kids professional progress to make a political point. But surely you just say yes, their background helped.
