Gift shopping for loved ones can be demoralizing because it's oh, you love them? Name literally anything they would like.

It's really not fair because I had like 6 little things to do that were stressing me out, and I just did 3 of them, and I'm still just as anxious about the last 3. Why doesn't progress feel good ☹️

Turn signals save lives
My biggest pet peeve on the bike is drivers who don’t signal their turns. I’m trying not to get killed on the road and a big part of that is riding defensively and anticipating what drivers will do. It’s easier when they signal their intentions.
What's the best nonverbal gesture for "use your turn signals"? This is the best I got, but I'm not sure it's being understood.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

You believe surveys over peoples lived experience?

Lived experience is so important we asked thousands of people about that experience! In a way that mathematically ensured a broad and diverse range of experiences! Asking about peoples' lived experience along dozens of different dimensions!

Like I think you need to reevaluate if your instinct when seeing somebody clearly feeling attacked and cornered by a mob is to think, "That person needs another person yelling at and insulting them."
I do wish we on this site could disagree with someone without viciously dog-piling them. How about if you see that more than 5 or 10 people have voiced the same opposition you have, you keep your comment to yourself.

What is it that makes people make "Darwin award" comments under a story about somebody tragically dying? I just read a bunch of these about a kayaker that recently died in Seattle. I want those people to have to wear a sign or something so I know to never interact with them.

The argument that banning someone who has deliberately used their car as a weapon from driving is too severe a limitation of their mobility & opportunity for employment should be a damning indictment of how society treats people who don't or can't drive - who are disproportionately disabled &/ poor.

It sucks that the amount of wealth one needs to feel truly financially secure in the US is so high. I'm constantly feeling both extremely lucky for what I have and extremely fearful of falling into poverty.

The most illuminating part of this story is the head of the PEO union describing drivers parking in no-parking zones, which are frequently places where parking is restricted for pedestrian & bike mobility and safety, as a "benign" issue.
Parking Enforcement Officers On Work Slowdown After Contract Negotiations Stall

The PEOs have been working without a contract for two years. One issue: Their pay caps out at $37 an hour, compared to $52 for other city employees they say do similar work.

I'm honestly pretty glad my brain isn't wired to think like that. Being kind of a simpleton in that way lets me focus on what I actually care about.
you will have a better life if you don’t assume everyone is playing 4D chess all the time. you will get taken advantage of sometimes and other times you’ll just be plumb wrong and embarrassed as shit about it. small price to pay for fending off the most deranging paranoia

The toddler is at an age where she has friends, but none of them have developed enough language to have conversations. Instead, they just get really close to each other's faces and smile and laugh at one another. Which I think is the loveliest thing in the whole world.

THREAD. Today our lawyers will be in a small courtroom in Colorado fighting for a constitutional right for children to hug their parents. Did you know that millions of children every year are barred from hugging their parents because of new policies? Do you know who benefits?
