I'm begging any artists still using Twitter claiming it's integral to their work to just leave. It's been revealed the site works off a made up "credit score" from hell and punishes you for posting like a normal human being.

Abandon Twitter for good. It's time. It's been time.
A quoted tweet from a user named Sam that reads: "How Twitter is rigged Type in all caps because you're excited? Lowers your reputation. Include links? Your score goes down. It's like the Credit Score system from Hell. And given Cisgender is treated as a slur & MAGA boosted, you can guess what's categorized as 'offensive'" The tweet they quoted is from user SADIQ and reads: "Tweepcred is X's reputation system Based on your behavior, you get a tweepcred score It determines your reach Break the algo rules, you score goes down and your reach disappears What are the rules of the X algo tho? Glad you asked." SADIQ includes a photo of Twitter's algorithm code that calculates a user's reputation. SADIQ continues: "Post 'offensive text'? 80% reach reduction Offensive username? 80% reach reduction All caps tweet? That's seen as 'shouting. Major penalization. Include links? Yup, penalized"

AI has made graphics cards, electricity and now RAM much more expensive.
But you know, old games still run on PCs from the 90s, which in turn run on 100W or so.
If emulation is fine, even a 15W Raspberry Pi 4 will do for that.

All of these graphics cards by the way: 50 watts or less!

What this underscores is the sheer danger of market consolidation in gaming. While companies like Valve and Epic do not legally have to carry a game, to not do so is functionally a death knell for that game on the PC; Santa Ragione has said it threatens the studio’s continued existence. This is not equivalent to a theater chain declining to carry a movie; this is two (mostly one) American companies more or less deciding what content is commercially viable across most of the world, in ways that are somehow more vague and opaque than the MPAA. This is a hegemony of American prudishness, applied globally, incoherently, unevenly, and unseriously. Anybody responsible for these decisions would be vaporized in seconds by a Pinku movie from the 1970s, and if a single person in this chain of command has an arts degree they are pretending they don’t for the sake of an ill-defined idea of business. Horses cannot be the ceiling for what is artistically and commercially possible in games, because otherwise we are in deep horseshit.

When I wrote last month that translators have been the guinea pigs for a decade in companies' attempts to diminish the work of experts and reduce them to supervising computers, I wasn't exaggerating in the least. They're just ready to spill more blood elsewhere now. dateemups.com/machine-tran...
"Since then—and I must stress, well, well before AI become the buzzword du jour of boardrooms across the globe—translation agencies, which are companies that serve as middlemen between translators and their actual clients, have largely won in using machine translators to fundamentally alter the parameters of the job. At the biggest such outfits, completely human-driven translations are portrayed as a luxury, even if the rates they pay out reflect that narrative less with each passing year. Instead, the name of the game now is PMTE, or post-machine translation editing, a process where the source material is first run through a machine translator and then inspected by a human. At a minimum, intervention is expected in cases of outright factual errors, but it's also not uncommon for clients to emphasize the E in PMTE and request editing that leads to a punchier final product. "Agencies argue that, by virtue of putting the onus of the first draft on the machine translator (ie: allegedly the bulk of the work), PMTE is inherently faster and more efficient at producing deliverable content than human translations. As a result, PMTE jobs are offered with lower rates, the expectation ostensibly being that any per-job drop in income can be made up by simply doing more PMTE. Less time taken for one assignment means more time to take on, you guessed it, more assignments." "In practice, this tends to not be the case. Quite often, PMTE ends up being a far more time and labor-intensive methodology due to the added step of comparing an existing translation against the original text, rather than immediately drafting a translation from scratch and moving on at a steady pace. Nevertheless, because PMTE isn't priced to reflect the actual effort required to achieve a satisfactory end result, it's had the knock-on effect of depressing rates for full human translations despite their supposed luxury status, as the latter must now compete against false narratives of superior efficiency. These diminishing returns are taking place across virtually all subject matters, not just entertainment like my own. Even legal, patent, and medical translators, people whose manual input was deemed most vital to maintain for decades as a matter of liability, integrity, and trustworthiness, are under as much duress, if not more so due to unfair perceptions of formulaic, repeatable compositional standards in their work." "If these refrains sound familiar because of complaints from creatives in other sectors—the appropriation, the hallucinations, the assertions of enhanced productivity, the downward pressure on income—it's not a coincidence. Translators have been the canary in this particular automated coal mine longer than most everyone else. Businesses have successfully and profitably rendered us unnecessary in so many use cases that the tactics and rhetoric that have been battle-tested against us under various guises for decades are now being deployed verbatim against everyone else AI has set its sights on. What may feel like a new menace to my fellow writers and especially my artist, musician, and voice actor friends is sadly anything but to people in my business. Translation was always, to a certain type of technologist and investor, an obvious, intuitive test bed to explore the possibilities of machine learning and hone its applications. It's only after their thinking was proven fiscally correct that, with AI “proper” now capable of imitating the work of far more occupations, those fangs are bared at them, as well."

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

It's not about if Horses is good or if you like it, it's about the world we're in where a few companies have control over who gets to make money and which artists get to continue working.

Stores can stock whatever they want, but if you don't understand the broader picture you shouldn't speak.
