NAPERVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH SHOOTING TEEN WITH WEAPON MODIFIED TO BE MACHINE GUN Naperville Sun An 18-year-old Naperville man has been arrested on charges he shot another 18-year-old Naperville man following a fight outside an apartment complex, officials said. Jermaine Badie, of the 700 block of Chesterfield Avenue, has been charged with two class X felonies aggravated battery-dis- charge of a machine gun and unlawful possession of a machine gun - in connection with the shooting about 8:50 p.m. Monday, a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and Naperville Police Department said. Police officers arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for injuries resulting from a bullet that went just to the right of his heart, struck his lung and exited through his back, the report said. The police investigation found that Badie and several other people allegedly were in the 100 block of Testa Drive, near Jefferson and Ogden avenues, when a fight broke out between the victim and another person. After it was over, Badie allegedly pulled out a Glock handgun with a 30-round extended maga- zine, threading for a silencer and a switch to convert the firearm into a fully automatic firearm, shot the victim in the chest and fled, the report said. Released by a judge pending trial, Badie will be required to wear GPS electronic monitoring, according to the release. "The allegation that Jermaine Badie pulled out a fully automatic weapon and shot a man in the chest following a fight that did not even involve him is outra- geous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "Violent crimes committed with the use of firearms will not be tolerated in DuPage County." Badie's next court appear- ance is scheduled for Nov. 25.
