Same with copywriting. The outputs are so bland and unreliable that if I'm handed them to edit, I just end up rewriting them.

Yes I had this when I did a copywriting job for a US think tank and they kept removing every instance of “scheme”!

You're missing an excluded middle here: it's replacing "human slop", i.e. boilerplate copywriting, basic graphic design, translation etc. that actual artists and PhDs used to make a bare living from while pursuing their "real" craft. Still driving artists and PhDs out of business.

the real problem is many white-collar jobs shouldn’t exist, period

I loved my job copywriting at [REDACTED TECH COMPANY] but that company was always struggling bc it was fuckin pointless and bad for everyone involved

the company motto encouraged addiction

meanwhile there’s a climate crisis on

I worked in copywriting when I was young and the thing you don't realize when you start out is how the bridge between clever and classist is very, very short

When I was in high school, I took copywriting contracts on Guru. A lot of them. I was an absolutely terrible writer (still am but way better than back then).

I wrote a lot of 'human slop' and those jobs are now definitely gone, the people that offered them are paying $20/mo to chatgpt to do it.

"white collar jobs" is so vast a label as to be useless in this context. i have copywriting clients who've come crawling back after a couple years because their output is featureless slop
I'm not even saying that's the most *likely* possibility, but it's just very clear that the likelihood of that outcome as increased and even if there's, like, a 1 in 10 change that "AI replaces most to all white collar jobs in 10 years" that's an *enormous* risk to the social order!

Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - People are still talking about the Super Bowl halftime show. So remember that it’s easy to capture attention and build rapport by mentioning common cultural experiences. #copywriting

At a much lower level, my copywriting career is pretty much dead now. The bread and butter stuff that was keeping me going like press releases is just gone. Because most of my previous clients are fine with "good enough".

I’ve been “tracking” a lot of these across a few sources and it sucks every time. If you’re not good at copywriting, hire someone!!

It seems like there are a lot of copywriting gigs that suddenly REALLY need you to be in the office.
Time I am going to and from office is time I am writing 0 copy, a thing I can do better from my desk at home.

Podcast ad for 'watermelon'. No, it's not any more complicated than that.

"And remember, you can't spell watermelon without 'water'..."

That must have been a tough day sat at the ol' copywriting desk...

Well, another day, still no job. It’s amazing how few internships or even junior positions there seem to be in copywriting these days, back to making chairs I guess
