The Javelina of South Texas: An Ancient Survivor of Thorny Brush and Time
The javelina of South Texas is not a pig, but an ancient mammal shaped by time, thorny brush, and survival. Respected by Indigenous peoples and feared by early explorers, this fiercely social animal endures through adaptability, family bonds, and a landscape few others can master.

Heard a noise outside, opened my front door, and there was a full grown javelina standing in my front yard.

I thought I was hallucinating but then my Mom came out and saw it too.

For the people with artistic skills that follow me and need a prompt:
Sic semper tryannus
Bonus points if the scene includes hyenas, crows, ravens, javelina, or dinosaurs.
I'd love to see what you come up with.

It's a free range pet, but judgmental nonetheless.

[January 24th, 1986] Pet javelina Bubba was abducted by Texas Parks and Wildlife officials after his owner was charged with a misdemeanor. Despite the owner's acquittal, officials refuse to reveal Bubba's location, leading to public demand for his return in Corpus Christi.

Beautiful day for a run in Sedona. Connected a bunch of trails in the Adobe Jack area to make this loop.

There are coyotes in the arroyo less than a 1/4 mile from my house. They wander thru the 'neighborhood'. They catch & kill kitties & small dogs. There are also bats in the area. There are javelina wandering around. A bobcat lives on the patio behind mine. My Dog is vaccinated against rabies.

Drove the dogs nuts this morning. I have video but it's really loud as every dog on the block wanted to play with them.

Been here 17 years, never seen a javelina, scorpion, or any form of snake in the wild. Fine keeping that run going.

I think if you guys are looking for some good Texas nature, you really should try and get down to the LGRV -- there's incredible birding, some of the coolest snakes in the state (the mighty and charismatic Indigo!) and indian antelope as well as javelina and other charismatic weirdos

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Texas for eight years and I’ve still never seen a javelina.
