#Peerage
hahaha, no, I was thinking - as i often do - of the time he was interviewed about gay marriage and went off on a tangent about how fathers marrying their own sons would disrupt the British Peerage

Bloody terrorists getting everywhere, even in the House of Lords, I wonder if Greta will make it to a peerage??

Cass sold her soul & any meagre credibility she had left for a peerage.
That's the thing about transphobes, their addiction to hate becomes so great they'll do anything & believe anything, even the obviously ludicrous, to feed their growing habit...
🏳️‍⚧️😬🏳️‍🌈
Cass literally saying there has been no increase in suicide as a result of her ban on puberty-blockers.

Tell that to the family of Leia Sampson-Grimbly.

She is also ignoring all the other harm her ban is causing, that I have documented here in my peer-reviewed (unlike the Cass Review) research.

It's a lot more punk rock than having a life peerage, despite what terfs would have us believe lol

I think the House of Lords as a place but the mechanism for people receiving a peerage needs to drastically change including those nominated outside of parliament

I wonder who is the intended 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 target of this 'drive by' 🤔😱

'[T]hey often think there will be payback; they may even have been promised it. Perhaps a key seat at the next election, a place on the list for the Senedd elections next May...or even a peerage.'

Yes-- many of whom were either Satcho men, or their allies (especially Tosa and Hizen). There were peers from the north, too, but the way the peerage was constructed, they were in some cases permanently marked as traitors (usually via lower than expected rank)

Michelle Mone took our money and never intended to pay it back. I don't care how long it takes, her business may have gone but the money is invested, we need to ensure every penny is returned and Mone is stripped of her peerage and faces trail.

Btw the Dukedom of Norfolk is the highest non-royal peerage in the realm and traces its lineage all the way back to Edward I, aka Longshanks.

this is also misunderstanding the role of the Lords (and the Privy Council) in the 20th C - they weren't UK but also Imperial insitutions - Smuts gets a Peerage as former SA PM so he can sit in the War Cabinet as Chief of Imperial General Staff

Exactly..

“ you did me that dodgy favour “
Or “you voted against this” or “you gave us a fat donation “

“Here! Have a peerage “

Last week’s peerage list shows the House of Lords is still used to reward loyalty, connections and convenience - all dressed up as democracy, at a cost of £371 a day per peer.

If we want a true democracy, it’s time to end this patronage palace and abolish the House of Lords.

Gutted that the BBC has forced this upon you. Your humanity and integrity shine through.
Meanwhile they're happy with the likes of Sharon Davies, who's just been given a peerage for services to bigotry

Streeting is a careerist politician, with big money backers and one eye on a future peerage.

The problem with plastic people like him is they cannot fully appreciate the deeper motivations of real people with active involvement in the issues being discussed.

Keir Starmer pledged to abolish the House of Lords and replace it with an elected upper chamber.

Since then, 96 new life peers have been nominated through political peerage lists, including 62 Labour Peers nominated directly by Starmer.

The man simply cannot be trusted.

Caribbean Latino here. 😉 I like how the linguistic scheme informing the titles of your peerage system is distinctly Latinate in form. At least for me, it automatically lends the imagery a heightened intricacy / ornateness. My people are NOT known for our demureness or cultural sense of reserve. 😅
