Stopped by a game store. Cyberpunk I used a completed discount punchcard…

Watching an IBM employee in the 1930s post "Making all these punchcard machines for those death camps SUUUCKS but it's all worth it for the middle class lifestyle it's provided me"
Grok is evil by design.

This is probably my favorite slide across all my classes. Just trying to put in perspective how much our ability to store massive amounts of data has changed in my lifetime.

It is truly staggering.

So they reinvented the timeclock, right? The old-time machine where workers inserted a punchcard when they came into the factory/office? Original!

Punchcard story - about 10 years ago I was in north Minneapolis at a client site that had been formerly been occupied by the long-defunct Control Data corporation. In the main network room there were shelves containing NOS/VE manuals and stacks of cards.
Hand-punched cards.

Valid. I do wish (and have for years) that there was some sort of premium content punchcard one could purchase to read paywalled articles. I have several subscriptions to news sources both local and national, but it's just not feasible to subscribe to them all.

How about a punchcard for every war you stop?

With the fifth one, you get a free donut with your latte

If I see it just TWO more times, I fill my punchcard and get a free coffee.

Pretty sure I could fill a whole punchcard just from the times I've heard: "You were a *very* close second!"

Saw the #punchcard trend going around the first of the year and decided to try it for myself. Might make more later but these were the first ones I could think of (didn’t do one for writing because I already have the #bingocard for those #goals). What would you put on yours? 📚🖤

Even in the punchcard and batch era, coding was not the main bottleneck with software delivery.

You may have read 1st version of this already - I've significantly updated/re-written, going back to the 1940s.

And omg I just read your s*ubstack.com on ❣️UNIX & it brought back so many memories of chatting w/my Grumpy Olds Spousal Unit (GOSU) as we took a 'puter class together in 1975. No my punchcard box never exploded walking aX campus.😁His did. We were in Mech Engineering undergrad. He stayed. I didn't.

Example 100,000 how there are just completely different rules and expectations for the two parties. We did it. Everyone with a punchcard gets a free sandwich.
If the biggest donor to the DCCC/DNC ran a website where you could use AI to take women's clothes off I feel like there'd be a demand for Dems to give the money back.

Cannonball Run: it’s supposed to be a time trial, based on the times punched onto cards at the start and end of the race. The vehicles start minutes apart.

So why does it end with a first-across the line footrace? JJ had ample time to pick up the punchcard victor dropped and punch it himself!

One more title on his punchcard, and he gets a free sandwich

The punchcard trend people are doing is so cute and I'd like to try it but the problem is I wouldn't be able to reward myself for completing them because I never deprive myself of anything so what is the point man

Trump must think the Nobel Peace Prize is like a McDonald’s Cheeseburger punchcard where it gets punched every time he does some illegal and barbaric 💩 and then he gets a free Peace Prize.
