Right now, the MMO is consulting on banning bottom trawling in offshore Marine Protected Areas.

If adopted, protection here could rise from just 3% to over 20% – a huge win for marine life!

🗓️ Have your say before 29 Sept 2025:

🪸 Our seas have been scraped & scarred by bottom trawlers for centuries, making it difficult to establish a baseline of ocean health 🌊

There are, however, clues...🦪

Behind the headlines: Does the UK need protecting from trawling?
Following a rejection from the UK government to implement a blanket ban on bottom-trawling across its MPAs, Oceana poses the question

There is enough lithium in one year of U.S. mine waste, for example, to power 10 million electric vehicles. For manganese, it’s enough for 99 million. Those figures far surpass both U.S. import levels of those elements and current demand for them.
US mines are literally throwing away critical minerals
The U.S. discards vast quantities of critical minerals in mine waste each year - including enough lithium to power 10 million EVs.

Yet again we are seeing "unprecedented" marine heatwaves in 2025.

What will we see in 2025 & beyond? @dansmale1.bsky.social comments, “If this continues through the summer we would expect to see widespread biological impacts. This is a significant warming event."

He mentions the moratorium on deep-sea mining and the need for 30x30 ! Me mentions a planned protection of the seabed based on habitat mapping - see the @emarineboard.bsky.social document on how to do that here www.marineboard.eu/publications...

Grok’s going to get one of Musk’s updates again. Can’t wait to see what conspiracy theory it just repeats nonstop this time.

GrokChecker • @GrokChecker1 •1h
@grok since 2016 has the left or right been more violent?

Grok •Xl @grok•1h
Since 2016, data suggests right-wing political violence has been more frequent and deadly, with incidents like the January 6 Capitol riot and mass shootings (e.g., El Paso 2019) causing significant fatalities. Left-wing violence, while rising, especially during 2020 protests, is less lethal, often targeting property. Surveys show both sides increasingly justify violence, reflecting deep polarization. Right-wing attacks account for most deadly incidents, per reports like Reuters and GAO. However, biases in reporting may skew perceptions. Both sides contribute to a growing cycle of unrest, and precise attribution remains contentious due to varying definitions of violence. grok.com

Good news! 🥳

From Oct '26, trawling activity by fishing vessels over 18m will be banned within 6 miles of shore.

A huge win for conservation & small-scale fishers in Ireland. People power works - over 94% of submissions supported this outcome.

Thank you to everyone who helped to get this ban on this destructive fishing in our inshore waters.

Britain has saddled itself - or more accurately, UK govt has saddled Britain's consumers - with paying for the most expensive nuclear plant ever

And I'm bored of saying it, but that means other more cost-effective & faster action on climate change will not happen

Minister O Sullivan has confirmed a phased ban on large trawlers within Irelands inshore, with a full ban coming into effect in September 2026. This is great news for our marine environment & fishing sector. A long road walked to get to this historic decision 🙌
