My partner's version of Linux doesn't have an on-screen keyboard. I was not thrilled at this. (Living room computer that drives the television, easier to mouse the virtual keyboard than hand the physical one back and forth.)

I physically can't handle most organized protest. Maybe our little cul-de-sac isn't much of an audience, but we usually have a protest sign on the door. I clear the wording with the rest of the household first. Neighbors mention the signs sometimes.

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

To anyone disabled, pregnant, prone to eating disorders, blood sugar issues, on meds that require food etc: Yom Kippur rules are very clear. You must NOT fast if it will hurt your health. Don’t believe me? Believe Chabad, even they say so. Judaism doesn’t want you to endanger your health.

What is the procedure for one who must eat on Yom Kippur?

Just as a healthy person fulfills a mitzvah by fasting; an ill person does a mitzvah by eating.

It's important to name the tools of authoritarianism so we can identify and condemn them with precision. I'm glad we now have a term for ICE's openly racist, degrading immigration arrests: Kavanaugh stops. slate.com/news-and-pol...

In the short time since Kavanaugh wrote that opinion, his assertions have been proved demonstrably, almost laughably false too many times to count. As Sherrilyn Ifill notes, the justice’s claims were already belied by the factual record in that case, which showed ICE agents violently harassing and detaining American citizens for extended periods simply because they are Latino. Now the agency, freed from constitutional restraints by SCOTUS, has stopped pretending to be engaged in anything other than racial profiling. Bovino’s admission only confirms what we already knew: These detentions, far from the “brief” inconvenience Kavanaugh described, are often lengthy, violent, and dangerous. Ifill and Anil Kalhan, a professor of law at Drexel University, have proposed calling these detainments “Kavanaugh stops,” a label that’s quickly catching on.
