I mean this isn’t what I’m saying. I don’t think we should even discuss reducing migration because a) I think migration is a good thing and b) nobody has ever been able to show me evidence that reducing it would have a positive effect on anything
This whole debate has become absurd. Obviously forced deportation of settled residents is deeply unjust and completely unnecessary. But the idea promoted on this site that one cannot even discuss reducing immigration lest it helps fascists is irrational and counterproductive. /1
I sat in the British Library reading League of Empire Loyalists, BNP & National Front literature for my book and even they claimed to promote *voluntary* repatriation. Forcible deportation was always the ghost behind those ideas, but it’s amazing that UK politicians don’t even bother to hide it.

Yeah I think there are going to be more families who do the equivalent of “we don’t own a TV, we simply all sing madrigals around the piano by candlelight for entertainment” during these next decades. There isn’t a safe amount of AI slop for kids to be exposed to. So if a platform has it: then no.
NB TikTok is totally blocked on my kids’ devices, but thanks to the fact all their videos are fully downloadable (how is THAT legal) it’s inescapable - all big websites are now video scrolling services, even Spotify etc, and they’re all full of TikTok slop

It’s obviously pissing in the wind to point it out, but I’m not sure how this gets fixed unless people stop using TikTok, which is the same as saying there’s no way of fixing it.

The minute we gave up control of who we see on our feeds to big, amoral companies, this was inevitable.
This person is one hundred percent correct and it’s scary af. We will never “media literacy” our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.

my friends, I am in a 10-person capacity record bar in Tokyo requesting songs and drinking Japanese whisky. the owners are a married couple chain smoking behind the bar, slinging cocktails, and spinning records.

"Almost half of everything AI assistants tell you is wrong" and "Oxford university gives AI assistants to all its students" are two headlines we are forced to accept as coexisting in this appalling timeline.
The response of UK universities to this is, almost universally, to say "Tch, what can you do?"

Or in some cases, to very overtly decide that the thing to do is join in...

One reason why the government is in a mess is that “is that true tho?” doesn’t get anywhere near enough weight against “what do the public think?”
Home Sec describes a widely held public perception (UK is the destination of choice for asylum seekers in Europe) + endorses it as true. Home Office data shows it is not true. Whatever merits of her policy change, should not make false factual claims

Migrants come to Britain because they think we're Europe's most generous country
TODAY’S small boat numbers are shameful, and the British people deserve better. They contain a lesson: we must go further and faster to secure our borders. Under the last Conservative Government, t…

Why is a Labour Home Secretary perpetuating this myth in The Sun?

Asylum applications in the UK are significantly below the average for all European countries. The only person helped by spreading this falsehood is Nigel Farage

Scolding me for donating menstrual supplies to my local mutual aid instead of money when they literally write on their website that they are always desperately in need of menstrual supplies... is the most fucking bluesky thing on the planet.

(if anyone would like to maybe start some sort of campaigning or pressure group of and on behalf of immigrants with ILR and settled status in Britain then I would be interested in helping, or indeed trying to get it off the ground myself, email in bio, etc)

The Tories want me deported for going on maternity.
Here Lam explicitly sets out her proposal - which is official Conservative Party policy - to deport long-standing legal permanent residents who have *ever* claimed any benefit, including the state pension or child benefit (even if the child is British), or who earn less than £39K.

It is so absolutely freaking shameful that a mainstream political party can propose something like this and not be instantly vilified by everyone. And who signed this off? What were the conversations and meetings that enabled it to get to here?

I have never liked a politician so much that I would get on the internet to negotiate how much Nazi tattoo is a acceptable amount of Nazi tattoo.

It's none! None Nazi tattoo!

"Loads of guys in the military have tattoos like that" is an argument against the culture of the US military, not an argument for chilling out about Nazi tattoos.
