YOUR PHONE CALLS TO THE SENATE ARE WORKING. KEEP CALLING.

Three Democrats who previously broke with the party and voted with the GOP are now saying they will not vote for the bill. That’s enough for the bill to be unpassable right now.
DHS funding bill faces new Senate hurdles after another person killed in Minneapolis
Some Democrats who voted for recent funding bills said they'll vote against any DHS bill without restrictions on enforcement operations. The deadline to avert a shutdown is Friday.

And Minneapolis' Phillips neighborhood is named for Wendell Phillips, a fervent abolitionist. He was once asked why he couldn't turn down the heat in his rhetoric: why are do you always have to be so firery? Phillips' reply: "Yes, I'm on fire--becuase I have mountains of ice to melt!"

When you listen to the song you can hear below you might doubt me – but it is not a topical song written about recent events. It was written by Parlando alternative voice Dave Moore in 2014. Dave’s…

The thing about telling people *not* to call their Senators is that it takes 5 minutes and doesn’t stop you from also engaging in literally every other available tactic and may reduce resource access for your enemy

So why tell you not to call? Op alert op alert op alert

I called Schumer and Gillibrand. I ranted. I told them to rise to the moment. Ordinary people in Minneapolis are dragging furniture into the streets. Put on a coat and get out there with them. Grind the government to a halt. Nothing happens until this ends.
It really do recommend making your shitty day the problem of your shitty senator's voicemail every night, it doesn't have to be a chore. It is a actually cathartic

HUGE vigil at Whittier International Elementary, up the street from where Alex Pretti was murdered.

This is in addition to the huge gatherings at the site of his killing and at the nearest intersection (26th and Nicollet). Three gatherings within a few blocks.

There is a significant body of research about how playing Tetris and other flow-state inducing puzzle games after a trauma can minimize a lot of long term PTSD effects.

If you watch a video of a murder please make that your next step
Go play some Tetris or some other matching type game, now.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

it’s not surprising to learn afterwards Renee and Alex were good people, because they died doing something objectively good: protecting more vulnerable people from ICE, putting their white bodies on the line

but it’s soul-crushing that their morality needs to matter more than the shooter’s does

I love the twin cities. I just drove past someone on a very tiny scooter scooting down the street, one hand on the handlebars, the other holding a full-sized cake, waiter-style. It's -1F out.

Both of Nevada's senators--Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen--have officially come out against the DHS funding bill following the execution of Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis this morning. This effectively ends the DHS funding bill in the Senate.

REMINDER: If you want Dem senators to shut down ICE/DHS funding here are the Senators to focus on:

Cortez-Masto
Fetterman
Rosen
Shaheen
Hassan
King
Gillibrand
Peters
Murray

And also probably Durbin, Schumer, Schatz.

Light up the phone lines on Monday am: (202) 224-3121
Kaine is engaging in performance art and it’s bullshit kabuki. Murray is already touting it so Dems are gonna offer the votes with wink and nods.

Dems likely to collaborate:

CCM
Fetterman
Rosen
Shaheen
Hassan
King
Gillibrand
Peters
Murray

And probably Durbin, Schumer, Schatz.

Cowards.
👀 Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., one of 8 Senate Dems who voted for the November deal, slams the House-passed approps package. His concerns include ICE. As a bundle, he doesn’t support it “without significant amendment.”

This still needs 60 senators to avert a shutdown next Friday. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile while tens of thousands of folx marched downtown, untold numbers kept up patrols and mutual aid runs, clergy shut down part of the airport, little protests all over the metro, businesses closed everywhere...and these folx barricaded ICE from going in or out of Whipple for over half an hour
Today is #ICEout day in MN with high temps reaching -11°F & masses are protesting at MSP Airport while hundreds are outside the Whipple Fed Building. On one side a blockade prevents ICE vehicles from driving thru while ice balls are thrown at vehicles on the other side. At least 2 arrests so far.
