If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

"As long as policymakers continue to flood money into AI, small press publishers will only grow in importance. The quality of the books they produce, driven by that creative, alternative thinking & integrative design focus is only set to become more in demand." www.thebookseller.com/comment/dont...
Don’t invest in AI, invest in the future of the book

I guess I reflexively resist engaging with art when the creators call it "content" the same way I wouldn't order a dish that a restaurant lists only as "stuff."

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

The CBC maintains an account on X - but not on Bluesky (nor on Mastodon.) Why? I asked CE0 Marie-Philippe Bouchard and Editor-in-Chief @brodiefenlon.bsky.social when they appeared at the Senate Transport and Communications Committee this morning. #CBC #SRC #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli #X #Bluesky #TRCM
CBC stays on X to reach audiences despite hate speech concerns - but isn't on Bluesky or Mastodon.

Fascists are desperate for violent disruption they can use an excuse for state violence and power grabs.

They have trouble with mockery, goofiness, and fun.

That holds across just about every type of authoritarianism. They like being feared for cruelty. They hate being laughed at and humiliated.
Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

so much is bad right now but the AI stuff in particular is making me insane. a desperate attempt to smother all human creative labor at an absurd cost to the planet by some of the most short-sighted, rapacious, and pathetic people who have ever lived

We built a calculator that doesn't work, but don't worry, it's also a plagiarism machine that will tell you to kill yourself. It runs on the world's oceans and costs 10 trillion dollars.

Everything fascists attack is what makes us strong. It's why they go for them. And it's why, rather than retreat, we can't give up an inch.

Journalism. Humanities. Universities. Education. Art. Culture. Museums.

All targets. All essential to defeating fascism.

Canadians are polite until we are we are not. What makes us not polite is fascism. We fought them on the streets of Toronto in 1933. We fought them in Spain. Long before America joined the war we fought them.
When you tell us we don't have a right to a country or kidnap our people we will fight back

Elites and institutions have not “collapsed.” They have not “changed their tunes.” They have not “failed.” They are not “cowards.”

They were and are simply been focused only on their own self-preservation and profit.

Nothing has changed. They simply made a cost benefit analysis, and fascism wins.

We have the text of the White House proclamation raising 25% tariffs on vehicles.

I am reading fast and it looks like some parts apply except those qualifying for USMCA preferential treatment.

Please forgive me the in-laws are here for dinner.

For fascists, the chaos and the "failures" are the point, not mistakes.

The more chaos results, the more they can focus people on scapegoats while continuing power grabs.

Do not measure success by the usual metrics: we are talking about a construct in which tragedy is a tactic.
