Astro City is Busiek’s magnum opus, an absolutely stellar comic
While I love a lot of iconic 90s runs (including three of the works quoted below!) I think Kurt Busiek’s Astro City takes the crown. I only had the first trade paperback for a long time and I reread it constantly. The rotating perspectives, ensemble cast, and mosaic setting are all brilliant.

My act of catharsis today was to buy a bunch of Derek’s books and donate to his Ko Fi.

Love his work.

Writers who use genAI for illustrations are class traitors. We all have to fight this beast TOGETHER. We are not just trying to save SOME of our livelihoods.
Self-published authors are unfortunately very rapidly becoming my most-blocked demographic on here due entirely to the rampant use of hideous AI generated book covers
Just in case it wasn't clear: If I click on your profile and see that you've used AI to make something, you get blocked.

Art doesn’t get censored because it might make people immoral or violent. It gets censored because it might make them realize that there are different ways to live than the prescribed hegemony crammed down our throats
A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

Lot of salient points in this. As a 9-12 librarian, I can assure you kids do actually like reading and can read full books. Technology (more specifically edtech) is a problem, but Common Core NCLB (and not teaching phonics) is worse.
