The new location update on X revealed what we've all kinda known all along: Republicans have been astroturfing themselves.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

13k comments on one tweet is a massive payout. All of the tweets follow a certain formula, so the content is likely automated using AI technology (e.g., AI generated images and text). Basically running it as a money printing machine. But for those in the US, it translates to low simmering rage.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I didn't jump on this because I didn't want to argue with people, but... yes — Google's AI is not reading your email anymore than they _always_ are. But if you're worried about your privacy with Google? *Don't use their email*! They have literally always been gathering data on you.
Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.

Mamdani has got to be a more fun hang than Miller & Vance & RFK & Thiel and the rest of those weirdos.

He should team up with Carney - the combo of mildly funny patrician banker guy and young charmer could turn Trump right around
Mamdani is going to bring him that snowglobe that plays "Memories" from CATS and we're going to get government grocery stores nationwide

I don't mean this in an "I told you so" way, but it was very obvious to me that the Mamdani/Trump meeting would go the way it did, because Mamdani is ascendant, popular, powerful and charismatic, all things that Trump wants to glom on to. Trump has no principles; it's not like he has converted.

I think Trump sees a fellow outsider populist renegade who defeated the establishment odds. It's what he likes to tell himself he is.

I also like Mamdani's hostage blink as Donald repeats the fabrication about falling Walmart prices.

I think it was a masterstroke to have Mamdani meet with Trump right after that visit with the creepy Saudis - he's so relieved to be hanging with a fun charismatic guy who knows New York.
