Thread.
There's a deadly building on fire in Hong Kong and the culprit seems to be the fact that the building was wrapped in bamboo and nylon scaffolding which let the fire run up the outside of the building. But residents were, allegedly, given the traditional stay inside rules for skyscrapers.

Monday I finished up the grocery shopping. Today I made a clementine cake. Tomorrow I beautify. Thursday we gather and cook together. I love this holiday, and its memories. Today I'm thinking about Thanksgiving in East Aurora, NY, in the 1970s, with my aunt and her family. Clay pigeon shooting LOL.

" Networks where poor participants could see many rich participants generated higher redistribution via taxes but also increased polarization and dissatisfaction. "

No wonder the rich people are hiding from us.
Seeing rich people increases support for wealth redistribution

I hope we can all absorb this fact into our beings
On December 4, 2007, in the Usenet group “Friends of the Friendless,” someone wrote:
“Happy Friendsgiving Y’all!”

And that is the first recorded use of ‘Friendsgiving’ in print.

See @nytimes.com ? Why don't you try a few "unflattering headlines" on Bessent? Or RFK! Now there's an idea.
BREAKING MS NOW:

Trump is considering removing Kash Patel as FBI director in the coming months, as he and his top aides have grown increasingly frustrated by the unflattering headlines Patel has recently generated, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.
President Trump may have had enough of Kash Patel, according to sources
The president is weighing whether to oust the FBI director after scrutiny of Patel's stewardship of bureau resources, including his girlfriend’s security detail and use of a government jet.

I find the idea that there is a fish community incredibly heartening
Wonderful new global initiative for the fish community 🐟 To follow more news on this, follow @shoalbase.bsky.social 🧪
🧵1/9 There are 35,000+ fish species, but we have formal social-behaviour classifications for a tiny fraction. Most knowledge lives in the experience of researchers, fishers, divers, aquarists, naturalists, and Indigenous communities, but almost none of it is centralised. So we built ShoalBase.org.

The site is making me laugh and laugh and laugh tonight. I had forgotten about laughing!
Incredible. We ordered a couch and then had to return it because half was missing, and we started getting couch after couch, every few days. Some were full and some were half, like the first. It did end after a couple of weeks.

It’s like living in a Calvino story.

I loved this show. If you miss the "people are good" aspect of Ted Lasso, this is for you. But less burnished, being Scandinavian.
If you're searching for a show to watch on Netflix & want something life-affirming but not saccharine, then check out the Swedish series PERNILLE. It's about a divorced social worker w/two daughters, a charmingly narcissistic (& newly out) dad, a maddening ex, & a heartbreaking off&on love interest.

Someone who grew up in the Soviet Union. May the tanks read this. Greed is the problem; many systems enable it.
My takeaway from the whole failed experiment was that greed and power will always exist, and that the combination of scarcity & putting a small number of people in charge of everyone else's access to everything, guarantee that greedy, power-hungry people are going to thrive and rise to the top.

Our sad burden as the party of compassion
In all these decades Republicans have NEVER said, "We should try to move towards the center if we're this unpopular." And as long as they remain a party in this two-party system, we will continue have at least one party that is extremist, bigoted, and dangerous.

I love turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. All in the same bite, of course.

I especially like to have the little turkey liver chopped up and put into the gravy:)
