For all the fully-deserved criticism the NYT has gotten for its coverage decisions in recent years, I don’t think its headline writers have gotten nearly enough criticism.

This is actually a well-constructed piece (the real point is in the kicker), totally hung out to dry by an awful hed/dek.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

If I’ve got my timeline right, this is Larry Summers emailing his buddy Jeff Epstein for advice on how to creep on younger women *a couple days* after the publication of the Miami Herald piece that made him the country’s most infamous sexual predator.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

I’d never heard of the writer in question (whose identity I immediately surmised) before I signed up for this app. I’ve still never read anything he’s written. I’ve never heard his name spoken IRL. I really don’t need to be informed the second he publishes a new piece — I’ll just assume it’s bad.
I really think that the best way to stop an intellectually anemic stylistically milquetoast bad-faith paycheck troll from winning is to stop turning every quarter-assed essay he publishes into the quote-tweet Super Bowl, but by all means, keep fighting your battle as you see fit

This is driving me nuts. He’s definitely not saying that Trump had Thanksgiving with him at his house *while president* in 2017, which is surely something someone could easily disprove. Dumb to pick this up instead of the 500 more incriminating things in those emails.
Why are the Dems spreading fake stuff when there is so much real stuff? The email just seems to be Epstein saying Trump was down in Palm Beach that holiday.

Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

Since Larry Summers is in the news for being a real son of a bitch I wanted to show my favorite piece of economic wisdom he had about the US coming out of COVID where he just lists all the possibilities and says they’re all equally likely

QANON CULTIST IN 2017: "In this 1,879 page thread I will unravel the byzantine system of codewords and phrases the global elite use to mask their pedophile cabal."

JEFFREY EPSTEIN WRITING AN EMAIL AT THE SAME TIME: "helo its me jeff had fun cmmitting sex crimes wit u lst weeknd"
pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

Of all the shitty assholes inexplicably given positions of power and influence in liberal institutions for decades, Larry Summers is certainly one of the dumbest.
Here's the full Summers email, btw.

The absolute worst part of my previous job was when @willharrisinva.bsky.social would file an 8,000-word interview, I would go in intending to give it a ruthless edit, and somehow I couldn’t find anything to cut.

Will is a GOAT-level interviewer. Listen to his podcast.
Given that this podcast has only been in existence for a few days, what's it gonna hurt to drop two episodes during the first week? So here's Ep. 2 of "Letting Them Talk with Will Harris," wherein I let Mitch Easter talk.

Because this podcast is new enough that it can't hurt to drop two episodes during its first week of existence.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

What’s more impressive to the NYT’s political numbers guy: winning a VA gubernatorial race by 2 points with 3.3.M turnout, or winning a VA gubernatorial race by 14 points with 3.4M turnout? The answer may surprise you…

Just to be clear, this was the *only* thing on the CA ballot. There was no reason to return your ballot except to vote on this.
Holy shit, the Prop 50 turnout was massive! NYT projecting 10.6 million votes, CA GOV 2022 was 10.9M votes.

I attended my first Dodger game as a little kid in the first night of the LA riots.

It’s genuinely astonishing how normal it’s become since then to see video of cops openly clubbing people, on camera, in situations where no crimes are being committed and they’re in no personal danger whatsoever.

If I’m ever named publisher of the NYT due to some hilarious probate court mix-up, one of my Day One policies will be an automatic additional round of edits for any article that mentions an Ivy League university, to be conducted by myself.
This is an absolutely incredible thing to say. As someone in Ivy-ish (Duke) classrooms from 2016-2022… I call bull.

Or she was saying offensive shit.

One of the great joys of marrying into a very large, close-knit family was having an ever-expanding group of people start referring to me as “tío.”
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.

Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."
