I am so floored by today and have so little to actually say. Remind people you love them and don't want to be in a world without them. Take care of your mental health and help people with their mental health too. Please remember there is 988 and suicide hotlines. R.I.P. Jessie Arcand Martinez.

What these dopes dont get is, automakers arent going to retool plants to make less efficient cars and consumers want vehicles that get good gas mileage. This is all performative bs
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

Yeah I don't know how to fully express that I feel like my soul is basically damaged by the way I feel about the regime & its agents at this point.

I don't know that I've ever really felt this level of visceral moral CONTEMPT for other humans. It veers into cold hate at times in ways I worry about.
y'know, i never hated a person until i was in my late 40's. ask anyone who knows me, i'm a squish. it still doesn't come naturally to me, but holy hell i *hate* every single person involved in making this DHS/ICE reign of terror possible.
It's a campaign of terror.

Her terror (and the terror of entire communities, forced into hiding) is not incidental.

It is a product they are manufacturing, a key part of the spectacle for their intended audience.

Which is the terrorized, but also the terror consumers.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries

Open AI doesn't want to be transparent about what's in their datasets - this bill would force them. If you're pro AI regulation (esp if you're in Bay Area), please show up and offer your support for this bill! If you can't make it, help spread the word!

Alderpersons just advanced a bill out of committee that could shutdown all THC and CBD in Chicago. Seems as strict as shutting down CBD from dog treats even, by language anyway. Would remove Choom, Plift, Toke, and other low dose, responsible producers from the market.

What's happening with the Chicago Public Libraries right now is terrible. The proposed budget of the city would CUT 89 CPL positions. Importantly, 78 positions were lost LAST year. That would be 167 positions in 2 YEARS while COPS KEEP GETTING MORE MONEY. ENOUGH. SAY NO.

Democrats will eventually wake up and realize a big factor in this rollercoaster is the filibuster. It tilts an already tilted playing field in the GOP’s favor, because republicans really have no interest in passing legislation anyway. But voters blame dems when they can’t make things happen.
This has been my whole freaking life. Every time Republicans take power people are like goddamit this is awful, they get voted out, then two years later people are like hmmm Republicans again
Cosmically funny that, the American public has had less than a year of uncut republican governance, and they’ve decided that they absolutely hate this shit, spit it out

There was a specific problem with pandemic-era welfare fraud associated with some Somalis, which the state government is investigating using the criminal justice system and by eliminating points of weakness. The Trump administration is using it as an opportunity to target an entire community.
Jacob Frey: "We are here to respond to credible reports relaying that there are as many as 100 federal agents that will be deployed to the Twin Cities with a specific focus on targeting our Somali community. To our Somali community -- we love you and we stand with you. That commitment is rock solid"

Short staffed why?
Maryland's increasingly violent prisons are relying more heavily on isolation to manage the short-staffed, aging facilities. In one year, nearly 4 out of every 10 prisoners did a stint in confinement. State recently paid $185K to a man who was in for almost a year. www.thebanner.com/community/cr...
Maryland increasingly relies on isolating prisoners in ‘restrictive housing’
Criminal justice reform advocates say the long stretches of forced solitude in Maryland are known to cause mental health issues and equate the conditions to torture.

My opinion is that if it's printed as an opinion in the NYT, the writer and the opinion should be under scrutiny, not the target of the piece. I see plenty of Gen Z in Chicago protest crowds, in whistle meetings I've been near, etc.
For an old guy, my perspective is skewed because I focus on street actions, but I think he’s right: “Older generations should instead recognize that the world we have created does not seem to offer a viable path to making change.”
My @nytimes.com op-ed: The Boomers Are Protesting Trump. Where Is Gen Z? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/24/o... (gift link)

The key point: "The absence of young people from conventional protests is both a problem and a warning."
