Trump has no legal authority, "standing" or otherwise, to order the killing of people in international waters for unsubstantiated accusations of non-capital crimes.

Calling them "narcoterrorists" does not make it right or legal to order their deaths without any due process.

extremely disturbing read. during this ceasefire, Hamas has launched an incredibly violent campaign against Palestinians it views as traitors or insufficiently loyal, including a series of public executions independently verified by journalists. no way in hell they are going to disarm next year.
After Israeli Withdrawal, Hamas Launches Violent Crackdown on Rivals in Gaza
Firefights and public executions have spread fear and raised concerns about a spiral of internecine violence. “I could hear gunfire all around.”

Nazis always view a call for them to stop murdering as "hostile".

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

The fact that she blocked replies makes it plain that she knows how full of shit she is, here.

No one called people antisemites for calling for a ceasefire.

It was the performative pretend care for a ceasefire as a reason to block Jews from classes and vandalize Jewish-owned property.

Jesus Christ, "neoliberal" has fully lost all connection to what the word actually fucking means when it's now used to mean "someone who hates coffee."

Sickening. Revolting. Vile. This makes you want to throw up.

This is the kind of garbage that the worst kind of people say when they think nobody is watching.

And where are Republican leaders from Trump on down condemning these comments swiftly and unequivocally!?

I’m waiting to hear it.
A headline from POLITICO reads: "‘I love Hitler’: Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat"

Democracies have multiple parties, that's a fact. We need opposition parties that respect democracy, not fascism. It wasn't endorsing or agreeing with Republican views. That is much closer to what she meant than anything the comments are claiming.

This is not what Nancy Pelosi meant, and is in fact EXACTLY THE FUCKING OPPOSITE of what she meant.

When Pelosi said that, she meant "strong" in the sense of actually being resistant to exactly this shit so that when they inevitably sometimes win they aren't literally electing Hitler.

everyone needs to internalize that this is just how all republicans are and when nancy pelosi said "the country needs a strong republican party" she meant that more people like this should be powerful. they are all like this! they all think just like this and like trump and they love it and it's fun

"it is necessary to have a sane conservative party for a democracy to survive" should not be an controversial opinion
golikehellmachine.com
you can just read the interview, you know.
So I see this election as very critical to who we are as a nation - the character of America, democracy. And they may not like hearing that, but I don't like what they're saying either. And what they're - the assault that they are making on - no one is above the law. That's been what America has been about, except if you're Donald Trump.

KELLY: When you say they, you're talking about who? Republicans?

PELOSI: Yeah. I'm talking...

KELLY: People who support Trump?

PELOSI: ...About the cult that the Republican Party has become - a cult to a thug. And that thug would be Donald Trump. So I wish they'd take back their part of - the country needs a strong Republican Party. It has had a strong Republican Party with great leaders for America. And that is really not what we're seeing there. It's up to them, though.

1) Conservatism, in an ideal world, serves a role similar to that of a defense attorney, by making those who want societal change argue/demonstrate/prove that it will be beneficial, not just change for change's sake
2) Conservative people exist
3) They need a sane non-fascist party to vote for

Wow. Trump's masked federal agents tear-gassed a crowd in Chicago and ended up gassing a bunch of local Chicago cops who were there to *deescalate tensions.* One local cop was captured on film washing out his eyes with a hose:

I didn’t have a lot of college Republican friends; one of them was in my fraternity and came out of the closet a few years after college and is a wonderful progressive guy; most were assholes in the “nineteen year old who carries himself like he’s fifty” mode. None were open Hitler enthusiasts.

To get a bit over my skis, the biggest problem our post-puritan culture has with sexuality is there's no middle ground between "it is your absolute right, even duty to instantiate this sexual desire" and "your sexual desire is wrong, evil, and perverted"

Which isn't very /post/ Puritan but shhhh
