There was WAY too much good music in 2024 to actually rank it so here’s a giant list of what stuck with me. Albums then EPs. Joanna Wang’s Hotel La Rut was definitely my album of the year but other than that I can’t choose between all these incredible releases.

The top 40 mainstream world has been profoundly weak this year… but that’s true most years. Just under that has been insane.

With all the tools we have now it takes such minimal effort to find great music, even outside of a streaming algorithm payola-ing it to you.

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win

Bradbury did write a fair amount of breathless sentimental slop, but a certain percentage of contemporary writers like that style. BUT Bradbury also wrote stories with a harder edge or a tempered lush style. That's the work of his that I prefer. Also, not golden age, but read Cordwainer Smith.

I wasn't surprised that my post about not loving the Golden Age sci-fi writers got a lot of... engagement. 😅

What *did* surprise me was that when I casually mentioned that Ray Bradbury was the lone exception, a ton of great writers chimed in to echo that sentiment.

So, as part of Taylor Swift's album rollout, there was a scavenger hunt involving videos that looked *really* AI-generated. So #SwiftiesAgainstAI became a thing and now the videos are impossible to find. Fandom outrage can be good!

Problem is a lot of the time people aren’t actually vocalizing that they care about it, and often signaling the opposite by shaming activists for saying “supporting a genocide is a red line for me regardless of your party.”
