This has been my assumption and belief for many years - civilian control, whether it be from Mayors or Governors, over police is effectively limited to whatever discretionary control they have over the police budget.

Personally, I suspect it's both. Pritzker was never going to directly confront Trump in any material way. But at the same time, I don't think there is effective civilian control over the police at basically any level, in any state. They follow instructions and laws when they want to, and ignore/

If you read @jpitney.bsky.social's book, autism was billed a personal failing of parents rather than a normal disability. It wasn't included in the larger disability rights movement. The fact it was also seen as something that exclusively affected elites made it even scarier.

i think it even goes beyond healthcare and should also extend to housing, food, water, clothing, and the ability to communicate/have a phone because these are all things people need access to in order to be functional whether or not they’re “capable of” performing mandatory taxable labor

Parents of autistic kids feel, honestly rightly, that the medical establishment doesn't respect or listen to them, especially to women, about their kids. Then that completely understandable feeling gets preyed upon by grifters who promise easy answers (it's the vaccines!) based on lies.

I read transcripts of Ed Gein's interrogation for "Dead Blondes" and what I saw was the interrogator pushing him over and over to say he was trans and/or homosexual, and Gein eventually agreeing that he sometimes "thought about cutting pieces off himself," which for Gein, could have meant anything
