Just fucking insane to see the absolute (intentional) collapse of full remote jobs available for AAA studios in so short a time. Why would I EVER move for a job again when I could be laid off weeks after moving my entire life across the globe??

one thing we need to do as a society is treat all fraud or theft over $100 million or so as a potential capital crime, with the possibility of execution for offenders.

the hyper-fixation on tearing benefits away from the "unworthy" is a cultural degeneration that I don't know how to talk about in objective terms from the perspective of liberalism

Also: Dad died. A few days later the family uses the EBT card to buy food. So what?

You really gotta follow up on an underspecified claim like “we found 186k dead people.”

People die every day, and the government is always going to be some amount behind in working out the administrative consequences, but that doesn’t mean the deceased’s EBT accounts were somehow used for fraud.
Brooke Rollins: "SNAP is a broken program. SNAP is full of corruption. We found 186,000 dead people."

The Massachusetts Senate is expected to pass a bill today that would create statewide rules to restrict attempts to remove books from school libraries. Here's a look at the details: www.wbur.org/news/2025/11... @wbur.org

The police should be broken up into like four forces each with different responsibilities and applicant pools.
My take as well: We need everything from "social worker who can dodge a punch" to "SWAT team" because sometimes someone's having a psychotic break in public and sometimes someone has a gun and hostages. The police being our one-size-fits-all solution is pretty stupid in that light.

Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

'Touch the stove' works as an analysis of the GOP's self-destruction. It offers relatively little for positive Dem strategy.

At this point, Republicans have stepped in it pretty well and all Dems need politically rn is not to lose. I'd hold out for more but Trump has taken a huge fucking hit here.
Yeah this part is darkly funny. Before this started, *many* people here insisted that Dems getting an ACA credit extension would be a massive GOP win (because 'TOUCH THE STOVE'!). Now many of the exact same people are denouncing it as a massive failure if they don't get one!
The goalposts keep moving on this too. If the outlines of this alleged deal are correct and it goes through and the GOP either welches on the promised vote/votes against extending the ACA credits, that’s what Bluesky wanted pre-shutdown, but now it’s the Dems selling out.

Without question, one of the hardest things I’ve taken on.
In 2021 a single, Muslim, Bangladeshi young woman raised in Kensington got elected to the NY City Council in D39, the district that de Blasio and Lander had represented. Her name is Shahana Hanif and she won re-election in 2025 with a remarkable 70% of the vote against seriously funded opposition.

a pet peeve is when someone responds to a remark about unseasonable weather with "oh, but I like it better when it's <cold/hot>"

climates radically changing shouldn't be okay simply because of one (1) person's preference
