Here's how you can help make a book of 19th century fairy tales available for everyone to read for free.
Frances Brownes was a 19th century Irish poet ("the blind poetess of Donegal"), whose best-known work is Granny's Wonderful Chair, an 1857 fairytale collection. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances...

You're welcome and tbf that's not how alt-text works, that's not the first time Darach has misused alt-text and it is really disappointing to see people with thousands of followers misusing an accessibility tool for the lolz
Alt-text is a written description of an image or other visual content embedded within digital code. This description allows screen readers, assistive devices and software used by people who are blind or have low vision to convey the content of an image to the user. Alt-text appears in place of an image if it fails to load and provides essential information about the image’s content, purpose, and context.

How Does Alt-Text Work?
When a person using a screen reader encounters an image, the screen reader “reads” the alt-text aloud, allowing the user to understand what is present or important in the image. Alt-text can also be helpful for people with cognitive disabilities who benefit from descriptions, as well as for users in environments where visuals might not load (e.g., due to low bandwidth).

source: https://vi.ie/alt-text-whats-in-a-description/ The content and placement of alt-text vary depending on the platform, but in most cases, alt-text is written directly into the HTML of a webpage or specified within the properties of an image on social media or other digital platforms.

Screen Readers and Alt-Text

Screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and Voiceover work in conjunction with alt-text by using text-to-speech to read out the description. When a user encounters an image, they can pause to hear the alt-text description, gaining an understanding of what others see visually. This ability to interact with alt-text allows users to navigate through content and interpret its significance.

Crazy that the Bar Council had to explain the "cab rank rule" in the context of Connolly. But the no discrimination part is also a strong message to those demonising immigration barristers.
Statement from the Council of The Bar of Ireland: The fundamental importance of an independent referral Bar

It is the duty of barristers to be independent and free from any influence, especially such as may arise from their personal interests or external pressure, in the discharge of their professional duties as barristers.

Barristers cannot discriminate in favour of or against any person availing, or seeking to avail, of the services of the barrister on the grounds of race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, language, politics, religion, nationality, national or social origin, national minority, birth or other status.

It is also the duty of barristers to accept instructions in any case in their area of practice. As a result, barristers should not be identified with their clients or their clients’ causes or suffer adverse consequences as a result of being so identified. This fundamental principle arises from the Code of Conduct of The Bar of Ireland and is recognised in the United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers and in the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer.

The duty of barristers to accept instructions, sometimes referred to as the “cab-rank rule”, ensures that everyone is entitled to access to justice and is central to trust in the Irish legal system and the rule of law.

It is deeply unsound to misuse an accessibility tool for shits and giggles though

Striking the Right Balance in Alt-Text Descriptions

One of the challenges in creating effective alt-text is balancing the amount of information. Too little information can be vague and unhelpful, while too much can overwhelm the user, especially in dense or fast-paced online environments. Here are some guidelines on what constitutes “just right” alt-text:

Too Little Information: Descriptions like “Image” or “Picture of person” don’t convey meaningful content and provide limited value. Similarly, one-word descriptions like “flower” may fail to tell the user the flower’s type, colour, or significance. Just Right: Alt-text should be specific enough to describe the image’s essential features and convey its context or purpose. For example, “Yellow sunflower in a field, with a bee on one of its petals” provides essential visual cues without unnecessary detail.

Too Much Information: Lengthy descriptions such as “A high-resolution image of a yellow sunflower, taken in natural light at sunrise, with a honeybee landing on the third petal from the right” are overly detailed and can become a burden for the user to process. Screen reader users benefit from alt-text that’s concise, only containing what is necessary to understand the image’s purpose. Best Practices for Alt-Text Creation

To make alt-text as helpful as possible, it’s important to follow these best practices:

Be Concise: Aim to describe the image in a single sentence if possible.

Focus on Context: Consider the image’s context. Describe elements relevant to the surrounding content or the message it conveys.

Avoid Redundant Words: Avoid starting with phrases like “Image of…” as screen readers automatically identify content as an image.

Skip Decorative Images: If an image is purely decorative and doesn’t add meaning, leave the alt-text empty. This allows screen readers to skip over it, reducing navigation time and enhancing the user’s experience. The Power of Alt-Text in an Inclusive Digital World

Alt-text transforms visual media into accessible content, allowing people with sight loss and other disabilities to navigate the online world with greater ease and autonomy. Well-crafted alt-text helps to eliminate digital barriers, enriches the user experience, and makes inclusive design a reality.

Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys has avoided a property tax on her old constituency office after failing to declare she’s no longer entitled to an exemption.

For failing to make this declaration Humphreys could face criminal prosecution.

It's pretty cool you're using that alt text accessibility feature. It's not cool that you're not really describing the image though. Nice and simple is a good start. Descriptive and accurate is the way to go. You'll get the hang of it. Try pretending you're describing the picture over the phone.
