@teni.bsky.social don't seem to use their bsky account so I'm posting this over here from their facebook because people should see it: one of the first things our new President Connolly did last week was write the community a letter for TDOR 🏳️‍⚧️

This is the "mature debate" they keep banging on about btw. What level of cruelty we should aspire to, with the claimed fear of being seen as less cruel than a country rapidly sliding towards fascism. An ivory tower scumbag
Justice and Migration Minister Jim O'Callaghan said he's committed to ensuring Ireland is 'not viewed more favourably than the UK by those seeking to claim asylum'.

His statement comes following proposed reforms to the UK's asylum practices

A new International Protection Bill to reform Ireland’s asylum system will be published later this year.

To add to this (aye, Gaeltacht investment gets MASSIVELY overlooked), we should take notes from te reo Māori revival in NZ. Have Irish heard everywhere in the media, not just on TG4. Refer to it as an everyday language for everyone. Promote an Irish Language Week/Month to really encourage usage.
I just hope everyone who likes to mention that they'd love to learn Irish and asking Irish speakers to help them and not leave them out are also talking about investment in the Gaeltacht when politicians come canvassing. I hope they're asking for new local Gaelscoileanna and more GA career paths

The real issue isn’t immigration, it’s the feedback loop: platforms amplify anxiety → voters feel it → politicians chase it → hollow policy follows. Until we break that cycle, we won’t get functional decisions or functional democracy.

An labhrann tú Gaelainn age baile/ cad í teanga do thí? An í do chéad teanga í? Minicíocht úsáide (atá ann anois go pointe ach doiléir), cumas labhartha agus suíomhanna úsáide. An firic is tábhachtaí ná oibriú amach cén líon cainteoir laethúil atá ann is dóigh liom agus conas cur leis sin

those who obsess over irregular immigration simply oppose all immigration and won’t say so, and appeasing this position invariably means either applying more pressure on a small and highly pressurized scapegoat group, with no effect on the numbers, or attacks on law-abiding regular immigrants
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Under new plans to be unveiled by Labour, UK citizenship test has a whole section on Northern Ireland. If you get any of them right, you don't get citizenship.
I'm forever reminded that I'm not truly British because I constantly forget to forget about Northern Ireland
What Americans don't understand is 'crassly forgetting Northern Ireland' is a core part of British culture, like cueing and only being able to communicate via laconic understatement.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

It shouldn't need to be explained to anyone, so soon after the Soldier F verdict, why Irish people might not want to be socially obliged to donate to a charity committed to uncritically commemorating all British wars, including Iraq and Northern Ireland, and financially supporting their veterans.
