Surely democratic leaders will jump at the opportunity of joining a "peace board" consisting of dictators and dictator wannabees. Even the parties of the conflict may pause for thought about how desirable it would be to have the board dominated by a rogue gallery..

“Americans are neither materially nor psychologically ready for this future. They have grown accustomed to the world operating in a certain way: Largely agreeable and militarily passive European and Asian allies cooperate with the United States on economic and security issues”
America vs. the World
President Trump wants to return to the 19th century’s international order. He will leave America less prosperous—and the whole world less secure.

Taking over Greenland is not a joke. Trump is sending messages to foreign leaders and making threats that will destroy the most important alliance we have. Are Republicans in Congress and Marco Rubio really ready to throw NATO away because they’re too afraid to stand up to Trump?

America is not trustworthy with Republicans in administration, but the far right is not an exclusively American problem. It is extremely likely that other countries will become unreliable as far right parties win elections. Until there’s a new consensus, volatility is the new norm.
The longer *this* all goes on and it is not aggressively called out by Dem AND GOP politicians—even if “nothing happens—the more the rest of the world will know the US can never be trusted again to make reliable trade deals or be military allies
We are fucking around with the fundamental trust in the decency of Americans and it is farcical.

No one seems to understand that trust can be lost, and that lost trust takes active effort and significant cost to regain (or maintain in the face of betrayal).

tbh the 25th Amendment really wasn't designed for this, Section 4 exists as basically solely for the "what if Jack survived Dallas as a vegetable" edge case.

the remedy here is impeachment (and also impeachment is a lower bar to clear)
It’s really too bad that Trump’s cabinet are all spineless worms or equally crazy because “the President has gone insane and is going to destroy the transatlantic alliance because they didn’t give him a Nobel Peace Prize” is kind of exactly the thing we have a 25th Amendment for

New in PN: Trump's long-awaited healthcare "plan" is a joke

"Is it great? No. Is it a plan? Not really. It is, however, in its combination of stupidity, ideological derangement, and unseriousness, a near-perfect expression of Trump and his party."

its extremely easy to see a timeline where Democrats are swept back into power in 2026 and 2028 with huge margins right as Paris, Berlin, and London fall to reactionary anti-pluralism
I see a lot of well meaning people (not OP) who like to talk about countries (usually the ones they're from or have an affinity with) as being steadfast bastions in the new cold war and I cannot stress enough that you have failed the assignment if you think this
i think, however, this is a crystal clear example that the next cold war is actually democracy vs autocracy and the battle lines run right through every single advanced democracy. there aren't really any safe harbors.

If Trump is on a secret mission to get all political factions in the EU (and the U.K.) to unite in opposition to the US, to stand up for themselves and to think rationally about how to adapt to the “Chinese century” he’s really killing it.

In all this Trumpian hullabaloo let's not forget Europe's real war, the important war. The EU can make Russia's war hopeless anytime it likes.
The narrative of exceptional Ukrainian resilience is one of the most harmful tropes I’ve seen during this war.

Yes, we refuse to give up. Yes, we have picnics in -15°C. Yes, we keep living, drinking coffee, and even laughing occasionally, but all of this stems from a lack of choice.
