How come we don’t hear about the profit-loss performance of the FBI?

What is the CIA’s quarterly revenue target?

Does the Treasury get defunded if it doesn’t make a profit?

Once you start to #QuestionThePremise, the idea of the government as a business sounds utterly ridiculous.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

This also really ought to put the entire “send in the troops” editorial episode in a much clearer context for everyone who decided the important takeaway was an “out of control” newsroom rather than y’know a sitting Senator calling for people to be shot in the street.

You can’t tell if someone is disabled just by looking at them.

There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”.

You are not entitled to a person’s entire medical history just so you can decide whether to believe them or not.

People are not faking disability, most are trying to fake being well.

2/2 It is also, as Ryan says, 1 of the best explorations of sexual consent, violence, & power dynamics in modern media. The repeated #Spartacus line of elite enslavers, which frames my book chapter on rape, is “Apologies. I did not know the girl held meaning." It gets at the crux of dehumanization.

Some things singers used to get from the church:

- Learning how to harmonize in a group.

- Real Performances before a live audience at least once a week.

- Learning through experience how to emotionally connect with an audience.

- Connection to Black American music tradition
Hardly any of the new singers use their diaphragm and it speaks directly to how the lack of influence from the church has caused a decline in musical prowess.
SZA sounds like she sings with her mouth closed. Summer sounds like Fischer Price my first chorus class. Most of the men are nasally/whiny. If their voices are nice the songs are boring or poorly produced.

Occasionally I’ll find things I like but the vast majority is a no thank you.

Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

Thats exactly the chilling effect this argument results in. "I'm not that disabled, someone needs it more than me, etc" Its projecting scarcity onto a program instead of allowing for abundant need, and it means fewer people get help.

The whole concern about disability accommodations is just "people on welfare don't deserve it" but ableist instead of classist.

Oh some kid got extra test time? Who gives a shit. Who are you to say they dont need it.

I think part of this is there is a vast discrepancy in what different people see as a "disability," and that's before getting into how many people have, in fact, invisible disabilities, which contributes to a culture of thinking way more people are "abusing" the system than they are.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

My uncles taught me how to play Bid Whist a few years ago, and had me begging to go back to playing Spades.
At this weekend's pop-up fest, the West Side native will teach a master class, host a Bid Whist tournament and screen movies that inspired him, including ‘The Spook Who Sat by the Door.’

Drug trafficking is not an act of war. This whole idea that these boats can kill millions of Americans is fantasy land. It's based on a fake statistic about fentanyl. And they're not going to the US and they're not carrying fentanyl.
It's great that reporting on the double tap has spotlighted the abject criminality of this Administration.

But don't forget: Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans, and the men killed were not combatants.

The first strike was every bit as illegal as the second.

Today's SL trend reminds me of one of my favorite lines from a Heltah Skeltah song:

"I'm renaming both of my hands Laxative and Colonic/
They'll smack the shit out any n*gga who want it"
I named my fists Magic and Missile because they're always gonna connect with your skull with no chance of missing
I named my fists Monty and Python because I'm about to tappa-tap-tap your coconut in a manner simulating the sound of a horse's trot.

We knew what woke meant just fine before y'all stole it. It had an established, agreed upon definition in common usage.
In the wholesale mass cultural appropriation of the AAVE term "woke," removing it from its Black context & never caring to ask Black folks what it means, it's made so white people on the left & right alike constantly try to define it. No one's supposed to know what it means, its meaning is hollow.
