Trump is once again saying the quiet part out loud.
Trump goes public with plan to "take over" elections
After the FBI seized 700 boxes of ballots in Georgia, the president calls on Republicans to assert control over voting "in at least 15 places.”

Republicans love adding seats to state Supreme Courts! They've done it three times in recent years. This latest court-packing plan will shift Utah's high court far to the right and possibly flip rulings on abortion and gerrymandering.

Democrats should take note that Rs have deemed this acceptable!
This hasn’t received nearly enough attention:

Republicans just passed a law to pack Utah’s Supreme Court after it ruled against their congressional gerrymander.

Cox could appoint two more justices before the court hears the GOP’s latest appeal to preserve their gerrymander
Utah governor signs bill adding justices to state Supreme Court as redistricting appeal looms
Once the new seats are filled, Gov. Spencer Cox will have appointed five of the seven justices.

What we're seeing in Georgia is a direct attack by Trump on America
Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

In 2019, the thing that got Dems to stop avoiding conflict and fight Trump directly was that he got caught corrupting foreign policy to cheat in his own election. Self-preservation made it impossible to ignore. Whatever Trump has planned for 2026 is already underway. So Dems need that mindset back.
The Goal Must Be Removal
Putting all eggs in the basket of winning elections is a dangerous decision, when Trump's plan is to cheat in those elections.

Remarkable: 55% of noncollege whites and even 50% of rural whites say ICE is too aggressive, per new Fox News poll.

And 71% of independents disapprove of Trump on immigration.

This is digging deep into Trump's base.

We detail these numbers on today's pod:

The last time we heard Trump on the phone talking to people in Georgia he was asking them, specifically, to find 11,000 votes for him in 2020 and he's in the White House today and not in jail. Anyway.
One more way in which the FBI's search of an Atlanta election office was surpassingly unusual: President Trump spoke to the agents who conducted the search during a phone call afterward.

Been thinking about doing something on this and the biggest issue is that we just do not have good data on Trump's mass deportation push, so it's impossible *at the moment* to do exact apples to apples comparisons.
"Trump is just doing what Obama did, & no one complained back then!" Given that this is a central talking point MAGA is using to reach people outside their hardcore base, it would be useful if a proper journalistic outlet addressed this comparison in an evidence-based way. I haven't seen one yet.

Hungary’s elections aren’t really free and fair. Orban’s corrupt control of most of the country’s media and courts renders it so.

But the elections are still somewhat competitive, and the most plausible mechanism to get him out of power.

It’s hard, but backsliding can be stopped, even reversed.
For over a year, polls have put Hungary’s opposition party ahead of Viktor Orban’s. But a big lead in the polls is no guarantee of an election victory
