Grateful to say: I've returned to Blackbird Interactive for the next step of Hardspace!
Shipbreaker is about the place of labor in our society. I think it's important to make media that examine that, and possibly imagines a better future.
Plus, blowing stuff up might be cathartic for all of us....

Xenovember day 4! This was my first Aliens cover, reuniting me with my Defiance Colorist, Dan Jackson. This one’s special for me because not only was it a return to Alien, but it would later be used as booth and lanyard #art at SDCC to represent the brand.

i think it's good actually that a videogame prominently featuring AI voice acting is finding success while my VA friends haven't found steady work in years and have their rates forcibly ground into dust over the few reliable gigs left
but hey the game is really fun right!!!!!!!

"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

Interesting paper! When you ask people about the most important issue "facing the country," they often say immigration. But when you ask them about issues facing them personally, it doesn't crack the top 10.
This indicates that voters are reacting to media narratives, not their own experience.

Got some very weird work coming up, so I'm building a system to convert Metahuman heads to low-poly assets with baked lighting and texture data. From there I'll clean up and paint over the textures by hand to add characterization and such

Microsoft is now warning investors about the pushback against its massive data centers.
The tech giant's latest earnings reports says: “We also face community opposition, local moratoriums and hyper-local dissent that may impede or delay infrastructure development."

Here's an update on my small-voxel renderer, inspired by the look of games like Doom and Quake. The work I shared last year focused on handling simpler environment geometry. Since then, I've greatly expanded the scope of what I can depict in this art style. More info in thread.

This is sometimes read as "look 'AI' isn't working". But the opposite is true.
_This_ is what "AI" is _for_. Push down labor power, push down wages, make employment more insecure.

God, I feel like the art style of this game is going to prove to be absolutely timeless. So excellent.

i think this usefully focuses on some neglected aspects within the discussion: we exist in an economic context, and LLMs are products with a specific, non-neutral shape and context, which have been significantly overhyped and which have safeguards significantly underimplemented.
“Relying on chatbots isn’t fringe — it’s the predictable result of care made scarce, stigmatized, and costly. Recognizing that doesn’t mean uncritically embracing chatbot care, but it’s past time to name what’s happening: Privately owned chatbots are functioning as public health resources.”
‘AI psychosis’ discussions ignore a bigger problem with chatbots
Don’t frame chatbot failures as human “insanity.”

My lukewarm take is that Video Games are broadly miscategorized as descendant from Film, when in fact they are much, much closer to the deep roots of Theatre. Or, more correctly, they grow from the same root of "Play" as Theatre & Sport; Film is actually a distant cousin later down the line.
love @mackeza.bsky.social on participatory video-game play + i love the idea of a "video game book club". have been thinking a lot about how we can bring video games into real-world social circumstances, gentle or raucous crowd participation, allowing social discovery. i want new event formats!
