Resist the urge to return to normal at all costs. It is an illusion. And a dangerous one.

1. There is no living with MAGA.

2. We are now in the Anthropocene. The world we knew is gone. Climate change is here, now.

It’s time for America to grow the fuck up.

my Blackest opinion is that the presumption of conflict between "America has a long and deeply rooted history of violence" and "we can and should fight against today's version of that, as did those who came before us" is less a philosophical debate about how to treat the past and more a skill issue

The most valuable cultural myth we have is that we can improve ourselves.

It used to be in our public consciousness that this is what we strive to do. And have done before.

Better people turned their shame into action. Small people use their shame as an excuse for nihilism.

Visible Numbers Only politics is like Visible Numbers Only management.

VNO management is the philosophy of predators like Jack Welch. It is what destroyed GE and Boeing.

If they continue to control the conversation, VNO politics will destroy America.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

I hate to be a broken record on this but politicians ~have agency~ in shaping the national discourse. Abolish ICE is at 50% based on what people are seeing and not on what politicians are saying. We should want leaders who push public opinion and are not so scared they render themselves meaningless.

Smart fucking kid.
When I was in high school I did a constitutional debate program and witnessed this exchange:

JUDGE: what’s your favorite amendment?

KID: the third

JUDGE: why the third?

KID: because if there’s soldiers in your house, the other ones really don’t matter

I agree. I've long believed that despite the odious currents in this country's past, which we can't ignore, we also have genuinely heroic examples of people and movements standing up for what's good and right which we should celebrate. The right lays claim to American history and we can't let them.

If you're arresting a parent with a child surely you take the child to the police station and have someone sit with them and give them a hot drink until you find the other parent or relative/guardian named by the detained parent? There is never a need to FUCKING SHIP THEM TO A CONCENTRATION CAMP.

“The message”

As if there is any one obvious domestic political conclusion to draw from an election season that saw incumbents swept out of power in favor of fascists across the globe.

If you think there is such a straightforward answer it’s because you worked backwards from that “conclusion”.

The decadence that brought down Rome, despite conservative association games, had nothing to do with queerness or heathenry.

True decadence is just people not taking things seriously - not society, not each other, and not themselves.

Same.
I’m becoming socially conservative in that I’m becoming a real tightass about civic virtue & honor. Fuck your boyfriend & his husband wearing dogsuits in private if you want, I don’t care at all, but I’m becoming pretty humorless about people feeling they have no obligation to any civic project

This is where @daniellaurison.bsky.social’s book “Producing Politics” is useful, as a sociological study of election campaigns staff and how they create entire worlds of domain knowledge that are unfalsifiable.
You've probably wondered, "is there some recipe book out there that is turning every elected Democratic into a bland, hollow nonentity?"

Yes. There is a recipe book. @msifry.bsky.social breaks it down.

I think Dems would feel a lot better if their electeds weren’t afraid to call the president an oatmeal-brained moron (in so many words) who is driving the country off a cliff *and explain why this is true* and point out that the whole admin is staffed with evil liars.

great thread
That all gives the appearance of a party that just doesn’t understand the moment we are in. The knee-jerk pivot in almost every instance to grocery prices or whatever is just dumb, and it’s worse when they don’t even talk about solutions.

Oh, so like what Ukraine did to Russia.
"The Canadian Armed Forces have modelled a hypothetical US invasion of Canada & the country’s potential response.... The military envisions unconventional warfare in which small groups of irregular military or armed civilians would resort to ambushes, sabotage, drone warfare or hit-&-run tactics."
Military models Canadian response to hypothetical American invasion
Armed Forces envision insurgency tactics like those used by Afghan mujahedeen, sources say. But officials and experts stress a U.S. operation is unlikely, and the scenarios are conceptual

NOEM: Thank you for not naming him. People don't realize that when you keep naming someone over and over, you increase the threats against them

We can and should create a federal agency that bulldozes local opposition and builds massive renewables projects.

This perspective absolutely drips with (white) privilege.

MAGAs turn their backs on good jobs and infrastructure because of “cultural signals” and that’s a *liberal* failure?!

What about the city kid who wants to run with gangs rather than being in school? That’s also cultural signals.

Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."
January 20, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Horseshit.

Biden did this. The IRA poured an enormous amount of money into rural development of renewables.

First thing Trump did was to kill it. And his cultists cheered, as they were being hung out to dry.

No, these are people who enjoying hating more than they love life.

Fuck them.
