Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."

He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

The old Twitter was largely optimized to the needs of journalists and its verification procedures embedded ideas about journalistic authority in the platform. Elon stated explicitly that his mission was to end that and he did.

When the Gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers.
Also notice the desperation for journalists to get back on the platform. They know that jurnos were using twitter to feed them stories, but now the platform is just racists, nazis, and bots and as jurnos have slowly stopped navel gazing at their follower count, they’re seeing it and leaving.
Look at the first two bullet points. That's an admission that the algorithm is rigged. Bier is supposedly offering to un-rig it.

Why would he do that? Because Twitter is a cesspool of misinformation and disinformation. Conspiracy theorists are rewarded and own the information environment.

“The cesspool of misinformation and racism and nazism was an intentional decision”. They created that cesspool by putting verification on sale and Meta was desperately waiting for someone to be the first one to do that.

My theory is that they only want the journalists back to troll them.

What if the social media experience some seek is not post-truth rhetorical combat with the deck stacked against them? What if they prefer conversations and good faith engagement? Why wouldn’t that be okay?

"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

Maybe Nikita Bier can read our study on why journalists left Twitter.

You can’t have trolls and conspiracy theorists mimicking journalists.

The big picture is that tech moguls can’t stand a marketplace of ideas which they can’t control.

I sort of wish y'all took this more seriously, because this attitude is a reinforcement of heterosexuality as a hierarchy. It's an acknowledgement and understanding that it's not enough to "be with" a woman, or even to father children.

They define manhood as exploitation, abuse, and dominance.

College is not trade school. Trade school is trade school.

Trade schools are wonderful and important places. But they are a specific thing.

The value of college is more than the job you get when you graduate.
There are a lot of big questions at play here, but the most fundamental might be: what is the point of college?
