big same, i think unironically the O F B scenes are my absolute favorites. love their backwards-through-time asses. UotNS was worth it for more hang time with the time gang, honestly.

so much stuff to revisit with new perspective, i’m looking forward to the second reading.

what i’m really saying is: i threw citadel of the autarch across the room when i turned the last page and cried when i finished urth of the new sun. 🌞

Without it the series ends far too abruptly with a lot of major leaps that Severian throws at you in last 20ish pages of Citadel (imo). I had no hope of arriving there.

I think I liked UotNS leaving us with some big ideas to chew on, rather than being miserly with in-world answers. Loved it!

reached the end and I want to read it all again. Severian's journey is a long one but genuinely profound. there's some goofy late early 80s scifi stuff in the last one that's juxtaposed against existential musings that truly touched me.

I want to write a lot of words about it that no one will read.

reading the book of the new sun and i am weirdly enjoying that severian mostly sucks as a person and i am not rooting for him at all lmao

it’s a masterfully rendered unreliable narrator. i know that is not a novel take but i now get the appeal, there are many layers to dig into.

it’s what made me buy a playdate (perfect format for it imo), all about more people seeing it!

i mean, i didn’t plan on drinking it

Yasumi "The World Has Not Improved In The Last 30 Years" Matsuno
"Nearly 30 years ago, the collapse of Japan’s bubble economy engulfed the nation’s financial institutions in mountains of bad debt, triggering a wave of corporate bankruptcies, a sudden and extreme rise in unemployment rates, and stagnation of Japanese society as a whole. It was an era when many were robbed of hope, when dreams were measured by their price tag.

“Against this historical backdrop, I crafted a story. It was the story of Ramza, a young man who fought tirelessly against the entrenched social class system. It was the story of Delita, who sought to take advantage of this confusion and despair to advance his own social position. It was a story of a peculiar destiny, in which friendship and betrayal intertwine.

“And now, in 2025 – a time when inequality and division are still deeply rooted in our society – I offer this story once again.

“The will to resist is in your hands.”

Yasumi Matsuno -- Original Script, Scenario Writer and Editor
