In the age of tiktok, I don't know that it's possible. There was already a decades-long effort to associate leftism/liberalism with condescension and we can't defeat that apparatus by expecting perfect message discipline when they can portray randos on social media as emblematic of the movement.

Why? I read portions of the transcript, it's literally the same thing. The likelihood of Ben suddenly not being bad or being bad in a unique way after two decades of consistent messaging is very slim, so I feel no obligation to consume every piece of media he produces in its entirety.

His piece about Kirk was centrist gibberish and he keeps doubling down. He appeared alongside Shapiro shortly afterwards. Both of the pieces were infected by the rancid horse-race adjacent tendency to comment on polarizing figures who support Trump without analyzing their content on the merit.

That's fair, and I'm not saying she would have won. My point is that Trump is an electoral anomaly and removing him confounds so many other variables that betting on what would have happened after his hypothetical death is impossible.

Again, I don't agree. Vance polled way worse than Trump, so did DeSantis. Again, you are assuming Trump is easily replaced and the last 8 years of the GOP trying to primary him and underperforming him downballot suggests otherwise.

First off, how do we know Haley even gets the nomination? The infighting would have been bad. And second, martyr or not, the GOP is the Party of Trump. They didn't even have a platform. That personality cult is not easy to replace. I don't know if they snap into line as quickly as you think.

We have watched literally every contender for succession just wither away. The far right desperately want someone younger and more coherent and voters refuse. The idea they would be more organized and get better results ignores the cult of personality the movement has been built on.
