Former radio host, current radio consultant, storyteller/comedian, mostly harmless. He/him. Rochester NY on Haudenosaunee land
40 years ago right about now, I used the open lunch period at high school to walk over to Don and Bob to get my usual hot dog and coke. They had WEZO playing on the speakers, and it was unusual to hear the music stop and a newscast come on.

I was a space geek born at the wrong time. 1/

The term martyr means “witness.” The man was murdered for bearing witness, literally bearing it, not arms but a camera. Murdered for seeing.

Unlike our paper here, or the Buffalo News to our west.
Worth noting that one reason you’re benefitting so fully from the Star-Tribune’s timely, extensive coverage of unfolding events is that it’s a metro newspaper that hasn’t been systematically starved to further enrich shareholders and executives.

It’s hard to accurately describe what is happening in Minneapolis without sounding crazy.

Unmarked rental vans all over the city, with people in military gear and no id jumping out of them to take captive anyone who looks nonwhite or who makes political speech they disagree with.

There has to be a point where the people with the power to stop this finally take action.

Right?

Right?
MPR News photojournalist Ben Hovland was at the scene of the arrest and said the agents took a teenage girl and boy into custody after rear-ending their SUV. At least two bystanders were arrested as the agents deployed tear gas and pepper spray.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers handcuffed and detained two teenagers in south Minneapolis Wednesday afternoon.

Your regular reminder that @morelle.house.gov has never explained, defended or apologized for his yes vote for the Laken Riley Act.
Senator Gallego weighs in as well. Note that at the start of 2025 he was considered a *moderate* on immigration and co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act. Him and many other Dems have been increasingly horrified at what ICE is doing and shifted away from a "more enforcement" focus.

My Official Thoughts on The State of The Buffalo Bills:

Show me a politician with the courage to actually meet this moment and I will follow them to the ends of the earth.

But instead I am stuck with Chuck and Kirsten and @morelle.house.gov and Bello and...
I will admit the high price of groceries is really hitting me right now because I’M BUYING GROCERIES TO DELIVER TO MY NEIGHBORS WHO CAN’T LEAVE THE HOUSE BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT HAS SENT AN OCCUPYING FORCE OF FUCKSTICKS TO MY CITY.
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.

It had only been out in the world a dozen years when I first heard it in college, but it already felt entirely timeless.

Still does.

The president of the United States is a madman, and the Republican Party is helping him destroy our country.
Donald Trump is now reposting videos on Truth Social suggesting that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had Melissa Hortman assassinated.

This is objectively evil, and calling it out should not be political.

I do think it's funny that billionaires spent untold amounts of money and influence to turn CBS News into a propaganda organ and their chosen herald's big idea is to run the network like it's a high school newspaper in Anytown Indiana

When you get the reputation of being the guy with the encouraging words on New Year's Eve, it can start to come through as a little pressure -- what if the situation on the ground is worse than usual? what if people are more scared than they usually are, and with cause? what use are good vibes then?

I was in an actual play at the end of this year for the first time since summer camp 40+ years ago, and I want to keep doing community theater without waiting again until I am in my 90s!
okay let's do a thread of FUN ONLY, no-stress, low-stakes New Year's Resolutions that are designed not to make you become a Better™️ Person™️ but purely to increase the amount of happiness in your life in 2026

I'm going to learn Polish folk embroidery and I want to DM at least a one-shot of something

The idea that we should be happy all the time, and that if we're not happy there is something wrong with us, is arguably one of the worst ideas propagated by the late 20th century. Maybe unhappiness is a rational and healthy response to whatever situation you're presently in.
could the “you should be able to be happy living anywhere, and if you’re not able to do that, it’s a skill issue” contingent tell that to my winter seasonal depression, please?

because MAN would that simplify my life if the cure, which I somehow never thought of before, was that easy

I love Takei but this is not accurate.

Let's take a dive into what actually happened.

1. Commercial TV networks in Canada such as Global, CTV and City make most of their $ by licensing US TV shows for rebroadcast.

They *must* broadcast exactly the same content the US networks are carrying...

Also, don't let any Grinch try to tell you that nostalgia is somehow unhealthy or unproductive. I am telling you as a licensed therapist that it is incredibly powerful. It is an anchor, a reminder that you have experiences and sensory memories of comfort and purpose that can never be taken away
