this is a great question and one to which I suspect you will receive few answers. I'm not sure everyone *does* agree that "sex based rights" are crucial, because they are deemed irrelevant anywhere they conflict with "identity claim based rights".

Sex Matters to Quakers wholly endorses Stonewall's quietly updated definition of transphobia. "prejudice or negative attitudes, beliefs or views about trans people. This can include the fear or dislike of someone based on the fact they are, or are perceived to be trans".

If I was Rachel Reeves, I would tax these ba$tards out of existence.
These gambling machines literally wreck lives, cause domestic violence & poverty, destroy society.
Gambling is highly addictive. It needs help, not exploitation.

i don't believe "correct" opinions come in neat packages, and because I agree with someone on one thing, i won't necessarily agree with them on any other thing. I don't agree with this administration's attacks on any minority.

Some of these people have now been fired and rehired TWICE since January. The current state of dysfunction is mind boggling.

OOOPS! UPDATE: Two HHS officials tell me that disease detectives, measles response officers, global health officials and the MMWR staff were laid off by mistake and will be reinstated. But Washington office is still RIFed

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

we will disagree. why just cede all of academia to those who cannot see beyond the gender identity paradigm? it's a valid attempt to bring clarity to the issues in philosophical terms IMO. Philosophy often looks like navel gazing from the outside. This was a thorough takedown of nonsense.

A fair, and damning, indictment of the SCOTUS majority.

Their opinions are poorly written, when they even bother. Their rationales fail to hide their overt partisan bias even when ways of doing so are available. Their oral arguments are cringe-inducing. They might seem sober adults compared to the freak show in the White House, but only by that low bar.

Carole Cadwalladr did a massive longrunning investigation into who funded brexit, where the money came from and those who were linked to it. She was taken to court by Arron Banks and after yrs of gruelling treatment was not prosecuted. She did however lose her job. That's where we're at in the UK.

it's fair to blame him for the post-accident coverup, but not for the accident itself. Alice should have faced criticism for her choice to drink in a parked car - it was foolish and irresponsible - but she couldn't have foreseen those consequences.
geekgirl397.bsky.social
he's definitely guilty of a crime, but he didn't choose to endanger anyone and the collision wasn't the product of his recklessness.
geekgirl397.bsky.social
His panicked decision to put Alice in the driver's seat was no glorious moment, but had he quickly admitted what he'd done he could've minimized the harm done.
geekgirl397.bsky.social
So I'm not super bothered about that, but I do agree that George hasn't had a fair shake, he was trying to help and his real wrongdoing was the coverup.
geekgirl397.bsky.social
I disagree that Alice shared culpability - at least, not in the moments leading up to the collision. She wasn't in a fit state to be held accountable for her actions, and she hadn't chosen to be present in a moving vehicle.

unfortunately the topic is already "legitimized" to the point where debate is seen as inherently unserious and malevolent. The "hermeneutics of suspicion" ensure all sex-realist views are paradigmatically malign and reactionary. Gascoigne's essay is a counterpoint.
geekgirl397.bsky.social
i don't think Neil Gascoigne is a clown. I think he presented a very careful argument that comes down to saying, philosophically, there's no there there, and there's no reason to redefine sex in terms of personal belief instead of material reality.

They come at us with word tsunamis, it's a nice change to see that game played with logic and integrity in the service of the bleedin' obvious.

I am pro woman and many people describe my views as anti trans. I hold no animus towards people who declare that they have any kind of gender identity but I do not believe that such identities are universal, necessary or helpful.

indeed, having your papers separate from your person may increase the likelihood that a lawyer acting on your behalf can present them to an authority with the power to help you.
