National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Went to report a copycat account (extra 's' after 'green'), but it was already removed.

Bit of a milestone, I suppose? Don't think anyone's bothered to make a fake version of my account on here before.

(Not sure about on other SM, I'm on very little of them. So who knows?)

The prevailing consensus over the last year was that anyone calling for a general strike was ridiculous and ignorant and it would never work here, and maybe that’s true nationally, I dunno, but I bet those people wouldn’t have seen tomorrow in MN coming either

Tomorrow's going to be very interesting. Anyone in a position to help me get some food?
With my hand still healing (stitches come out next week), I haven't finished the gig I meant to hand off on Monday. So I'm out of money, and EoD also food.

I have blocked a LOT of people today for a lot of different reasons without making a big deal of it, but here's one for you: an AI "artist" who responded to a "I don't know if my character would wear fishnets" by reposting my design with that edit.

I knew someone who was killed like this. It it’s true. And the police often do this. People I’ve told about starlight tours don’t believe that it could happen in Canada.
They're trying to murder these people. This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last.

In Canada, they called them "Starlight Tours." The intention was to take folks and dump them in remote places with the hope that exposure would do the killing for them.

This is attempted murder.

Yesterday in a thread reply about Anna's Archive soliciting "donations" from AI companies in exchange for their full catalogue to train on, I resisted the urge to joke about that probably being in cryptocurrency.

Today, the catfishing post floating around shows they want $200k in...cryptocurrency.

this part of the thread especially!!!

and specifically: you have to invest in your authors, and in your gd midlist. Martha Wells was in these trenches for over twenty years before Murderbot happened.
And you can't assign a number to "weird and interesting." You have to take risks. You have to be OK with failure. Otherwise you're publishing 10,000 titles that are vaguely similar and that's not going to work out for you long term. It's boring.

whew this thread is the truth
I've said this a couple times in interviews lately but it's annoying that the lesson publishing will take away from this isn't "invest in more specific, niche, and/or weird books that cater to an under-served readership." It'll be "MORE SPORTS" bc that's a variable they can quantify.
I wrote about how Heated Rivalry is just the latest case of how publishers, with all their data, are still not able to predict what will be the next sensation. lithub.com/get-ready-fo...

I am actively looking for a decent paying remote job (publishing or publishing adjacent would be 👌🏾) but in the meantime ⬇️

So @safety.bsky.app apparently introduced some sort of strike program for violations but….never told us anything about it??

What the hell good is a system like this if you don’t tell us how many strikes for what violations and what strikes ultimately add up to??
Wait what’s the deal with the strikes? What happens on the third strike? In my defense, Klaus was really an asshole.

Thread:
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
