To everyone sympathetic for Ukraine who is trying to downplay this or do whataboutism pointing to corruption in the West - the best thing we can do for Ukraine is to help it eliminate corruption ASAP, as it's the single biggest weakness of the country.

Way too much press coverage of "AI" is spent debating the hypemerchants' claims of speed & efficiency & scale of impact, & not nearly enough is time spent on 2 very basic questions:

Are these systems outputs anything like correct? And, if & when they get things wrong, how much harm will that cause?

A cool paper from OOPSLA '25 —

An Empirical Evaluation of Property-Based Testing in Python
dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

Some interesting findings:
- "Each property-based test finds about 50x as many mutations as the average unit test"
- "76% of mutations were found within the first 20 inputs"

I’m going to regret asking this, but… what mechanism are people proposing whereby AI will “end scarcity”?

This feels like literal underpants gnomes thinking, and as I never tire of pointing out, it’s being driven by a lot of the same actual people
AI could end scarcity, end humanity - or boost trend growth by 0.2 percentage points

Ukrainian interceptor drone downing a Russian Shahed targeting an apartment building.

Russian forces launch daily from dozens to 100s of long-range Shahed drones carrying up to 90 kg of explosives, along with decoy drones. Most target residential areas and civilian infrastructure.

When I was a kid, we'd sing some Russian songs in school. We'd also sing Swedish, French, American and English songs, among other. That wasn't particularly significant as such.

But context matters. With an Ukrainian student, it suddenly becomes very significant. This teacher was a fucking idiot.

This is huge news in @cameronwilson.bsky.social's @thesizzle.com.au- Microsoft is being forced by the Aus regulator refund all the ultra-dodgy AI plan pushing it was doing for Office 365

Wild that other regions aren't also using regulatory power to punish Microsoft

A new free piece released. The Trump "harsh" sanctions on Russia last night were anything but. They actually provide protection for Russia's biggest oil customers to transact business for at least the next 4 weeks--and have no automatic sanction after that. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Anthropic is spending more on its Amazon Web Services contract than *all of the revenue it's generating*, according to Ed's source who's familiar with the deals. Pretty wild snapshot of the #2 AI company here.
Exclusive: Anthropic spent $2.66 billion on Amazon Web Services in the first three quarters of 2025, around 100% of their estimated revenue. Its costs appear to increase with their revenue, showing little path to profitability.
