Makes me sad that there have been people working on chatbots for decades, especially as delightful curiosities / toys / game characters, and now we have the most sophisticated models of language to ever exist powering chatbots and they're a disaster

I think this is an underrated source of the extent to which Bluesky is in a false consensus about public AI hatred. If you are a power user on a microblogging site you are basically by definition not going to see the "take the effort out of reading and writing" machine as being useful
I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.

I need a good illustration of The Nativity but unfortunately all the good artists are really into the three magi and I need several more shepherds and three fewer magi in the image

Great thread and investigation. Exactly what we all assumed: the ‘confidential information’ was wages and work conditions discussed in a worker-only Discord, not leaking anything about the game. Pure union busting.
EXCLUSIVE: So far it's been unclear what proof Rockstar Games has to justify its firing of 34 union members, who it claims were leaking "confidential information in a public forum".

PMG has now seen some of the messages which contributed to this decision being made.

the consensus seems to be that models are not inventing evil from first principles, but rather they are formed by correlating vast swaths of human text and recognize that certain concepts are correlated w/one another (that's how LLMs work in the first place), so they see the evil ones as related

i'm going to sound sarcastic here but genuinely one of the most interesting aspects of LLMs is that they are proving that evil is real, by which i mean if you train them to do one bad thing they start doing other bad things that you have not trained them to do

The greatest trick the LLM programmers ever pulled was convincing people they don't exist. We must understand there are authors of gen AI bots and their finger prints are all over the outputs.
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

"personalising content for millions of users". Have you considered paying thousands of artists to make a diverse range of art?
psst, no one is struggling with this - we are trying to create singular things that resonate with a huge audience or resonate hugely with a specific audience. We "struggle" with how tech and VC funding has broken almost every creative economy we have. So thanks but no thanks

"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.
